I like to read reviews and to wikicheck films BEFORE seeing a film, I think one gets more out of them that way

Anyone disagree?

Batman V superman

well it was fun, but really made no sense, why did batman HATE superman so much batmans dad was a jerk to stay in the office after all the rest had left and had been told to get all the staff to leave ( dad must be a a bit dumb to need telling that when all hell was loose outside that he could see)?, then so readily change his mind? why rehearse batmans parents death at the start? why did wonderwoman make an entrance in the last 20 minutes or so? ( a bit of skirt or thigh?) . why did lois throw the kryptonite spear in the water? As for lex luther just - he needs his back side smacked. what was funny when superman tries to tell batman its all a mistake then in next breathe goes onto knock the s h i t e out of him  why didnt superman go to save his mum rather than depend onbatman who a minute a go hated his guts  there there is the telly tubby fight...... Then after that the so and so goes and dies and there is a hanky sellot out at all the sainsburys and tescos for 15 minutes or so

has any one ever made a fantasy/sci film that actually makes sense, not too hibrow though?

one happy thought - watching it didnt cost me a penny :D

That is of course Guardian clickbait. There were around 1,000 Indian troops at Dunkirk but that is not many in the context of the 300,000 who were evacuated let alone the several tens of thousands who were killed or taken prisoner.

Algerian and Moroccan regiments in the French army were rescued along with their white comrades.

18000 French soldiers died defending the perimeter, and more were captured by the Germans. A number of historians have credited the success of the rescue with the French defense. Some have even said that the British were rescued at the expense of the French.

IMO, The action was good. The cinematography was brilliant, but between how the French are treated in the film, and ignoring the existence of black and Muslim soldiers, it's the perfect film for Brexit.

Downsizing looks interesting, like a remake of "Honey I shrunk the kiiids", people are shrunk but their wealth is not so they suddenly become rich (what if they have debts?)

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - very darkly comic, quite profane, not entirely believable but very good. Leaves one hanging not so much because of the possibilities at the end but why the gift shop visitor visited....

The argument is not really about whether black/Arab/Muslim or whatever troops were appropriately represented but about the type of film it is. It is seen through the eyes of three antagonists or groups of antagonists only, it does not pretend to tell the wider story of Operation Dynamo. The Guardian's original article criticises something which the filmmaker evidently didn't want/try to portray.

It's like the difference between 'Enemy at the Gates' and the German film 'Stalingrad' (1993). Both are about the Battle of Stalingrad but the former sees it only through the eyes of the 'battle of the snipers'. The 1993 film is far broader and tells a wider picture of the experience of the battle - at least through German eyes. But you can't criticise 'Enemy at the Gates' because it doesn't show that there were two Romanian armies fighting on the German side, that 160,000 Romanian soldiers died or that 3,000 were taken prisoner - it's not necessary as part of the film's plot.

Any one seen The Darkest Hour about Churchill and 1940? |Saw a review in the Standard that much of the detail is false - eg he didnt take a tube trip to guage the mood of the people and he didnt quote what the film said he did - in fact a film for supporters of brexit? seems like it has film goers cheering for his we will fight them on the beaches speech

And in other news Henry Hook who won a VC at Rorke's Drift was a model soldier and a teetotaller. In the film 'Zulu' he's portrayed as a drunk for dramatic effect.

If you really think all historical films or biopics are portraying the absolute truth you're going to be very disappointed. Buy a book instead - books allow a more rounded narrative.

no one cares or knows about the Zulu wars of 1879, Churchill is still part of the living memory of some and still has an influence in the British mind, thats the difference, why it seems people were cheering in the cinema - I doubt people were cheering or anything in Zulu! I remember seeing Zulu! when I was a kid, was just a good adventure film. Another instance of bad judgement was that film about the yankee seizure of the enigma machine making out the yanks were the heroes when it was the British - they had to put in a disclaimer in the film what realy happened as there were so many protests

Just watched The Finest Hours on Netflix.

About a sea rescue by a crew of US coastguards of some men stranded on an oil tanker which had split in two in a terrible cyclone called a nor'easter. (Based on true story)

It was pretty good I enjoyed it.
