I notice when rUK political funds use the backdoor of NI to circumvent the stricter political funding rules of rUK, it is considered "dodgy". Some people seem to think devolution should only be skin deep and certainly not on an equal footing.

The dodgy issue is passing £1bn to a single region as payment to ensure that 10 MPs will support May thus allowing her to stay in power. The payment seems to have been made on the basis of getting the votes of those 10 MPs and nothing to do with any report, review, consideration of past under investment. That is what is being described as dodgy.

The Parliamentary change yesterday is only changing English law such that NHS does not discriminate against some British citizens (i.e. moving towards everybody being able to expect to receive the same treatment whatever their postcode). The change agreed was concerning England and English laws. People from NI pay taxes just like we do in East Anglia and so it is reasonable for them to expect not to be discriminated against.

There was a different issue described by Bovlomov as "dodgy". Political anonymous donors gave to the DUP because of laxer regulations on declarations and the money was then used for campaigning on the mainland.

Havent you heard of devolution?

My son is at an English University but he doesnt pay the same fees as an English student because he comes from Wales. It isnt discrimination, it is devolution.

Yes. And in what way does it stop England changing NHS practice in England ? (e.g. for the treatment of British citizens).

England's NHS is devolved too, it can do what it likes. That isnt discrimination either.
It isnt their job to try and provide equitable treatment to those of the devolved powers in other regions.

Or we could drop taxes and services in Wales and just send everybody over to England for free treatment.

Yes. Having read several reports about the sources of that funding and the way it was used, I'd say 'dodgy' is a fair description.

Hey! Didn't you start this thread, in similar vein?

I'm afraid I don't 'do' betting-shops and the like. Is there another (cash-free) way in which I can gain masses of kudos if I happen to make a correct prediction?

Corbyn told Michael Eavis that he would be PM within 6 months. He could only achieve that with an election. With the aid of all the other opposition parties he wouldn't have enough seats and a real cocktail of opinion which would lead to many tensions. I can't believe he would have enough seats after another election either. So I would be looking at 20 to 1 against him now the Tories are shifting on public sector pay and some of their anti pensioner policies.

In a way I'd welcome Corbyn as PM if the Great British public votes for it.

I'm unlikely to suffer to any noticeable degree from such a decision ( unless Jezza goes the whole hog and sends the educated classes to work on farms until they die like Chairman Mao did) and it'd be fun to see another own goal by those unable to resist the lure of yet another socialist saviour.

For the sake of the children I hope we are not subjected to Corbyn as PM.

It's not quite the same thing.
