We Are The Metalheads.....despite my attempts to convince myself that I like other genres, I don't really. Except for The VU and early Beefheart.

Ms Merkel is expected to serve her people for another four years, there is no legal limit as in the USA
She has selected a likely successor, AKK is female too and the new leader of the SPD will be Ms Nahles
Not many males in the top echelons of German politics, +1!

Martin Schulz wanted to upgrade from the European Commission to Bundeskanzler but he soon went from 100 to zero
Maybe he will go back into the book trade

Here we go with the 'hold our opinions, or you must be a bigot' stuff. I have made it clear I am not particularly concerned with the feelings of individuals for and against these things, whether that be homosexual marriage or polygamy...wait a minute, I take it you have changed your mind on polygamy. Just a few posts ago you were saying that the law on polygamy should remain the same, now you have changed your position?

IMO your close pass analogy is a bad one for the reasons given.
I'm not saying you're a bigot at all.
I'm saying attitudes change and it's your prerogative to have and hold your opinion from your view point,I respect that,I dont think the Christian church should be made to marry homosexuals or anyone who wishes to change the vows as laid down within the church's tenets, but you can't impose those laws on the rest of what is a secular society and which includes other religions with differing religious laws to yours, especially if the secular law says otherwise.
There's no law against homosexual marriage, and if people marrying agree to an 'open' marriage from the outset ie; in their vows, there's no law against that either.
And I've explained my position on polygamy clearly in that,it doesn't suit mine and Mrs R2's lifestyle but if it suites other people's,then I've no objection to it,providing it's within the secular law.
I can't be any clearer on these issues!

I am concerned with the institution of marriage. If, like anything else, it means anything and everything, then it also means nothing. I think there should be boundaries; you, presumably, think anything can constitute a marriage (you have moved in the space of a few posts from being against polygamy to being in favour; at least you were paying attention when I said if you say we 'shouldn't judge', then you must suspend all judgement), others are 100% unconcerned with the vows they took.

Excuse me for thinking I am alone as the only one in this thread so far who wants to defend marriage as an institution, by keeping it defineable, respectable (and respected) and to some extent immutable (it must be monogamous). If it is undefined and non-monogamous then, in the context of the western world at least, I hardly think it can be continue being respectable and respected.

Where to start :?
IMO because marriage isn't the exclusive possession of religion it can be changed to suit the individuals involved,as I've posted before your definition of marriage isn't everyone's much as you wish it to be.I can't be anymore clear,if you disagree then we'll have to leave it at that because of our differences.

I think we have been pretty civil so far...

Agreed.

Sorry, maybe we could ask the mods to split the digression off into its own thread?

Agreed again.though AFAIC I've said all I wish to on the subject I think

Jens Spahn is the new health minister in Berlin, he is married. To a man
Now he is fishing for votes on the right and made a comment about abortion that upset the feminists
Clever, cos they dare not answer back?

seems like German luftwaffe has only 4 operational jets

"The German air force only has four Eurofighter jets which could be deployed in the event of an emergency, meaning the country cannot fulfil its Nato obligations, Spiegel reported on Wednesday."

seems like there is a fault and

"A special seal is required to hold the liquid inside. But the company that produced the seal was sold off without the supplier informing the German Defence Ministry.."

seem to have the "british disease"?

Plus One :?
They create lots of work but never go into action and are eventually scrapped

The Germans are good at that sort of thing
I can think of two big firms whose products are almost never used, they make fire protection (sprinklers, alarms) and oxygen masks for aircraft

There are plenty of World Champions in Germany, one is the market leader in bath tubs :D

One thing I love to hate is the forms of address, Siezen & Duzen

Sometimes Siezen is used to ostracise someone in a group

Trendy young people often Du strangers, I find that disrespectful

The Yorkshire saying should apply: *Don't thee thou me! Thee thous them as thous thee*

I live and work in Germany and it is a constant wonder how the Country is such an economic powerhouse; the engine room of Europe. It is truly exasperating trying to get anything done here. Lovely country, nice people, but goodness it is slow making progress. And that stereotype about rules? Try doing anything here without them - you will regret it. Not that you will get anything done on time, or in budget, or have any decent communication over whatever it is you are trying to achieve anyway, but hey, .....the only country in Europe running a decent balance of trade surplus.

I have worked for several *hidden champions* in Germany, firms that are very successful but usually relatively small and not famous, no need to be famous, they are typically rather specialised and export most of their production. Baden-Wurttemberg is full of them, the regional government there is led by the Greens!
Germany works, no need to understand why

Berlin is of course a different fettle of Kitsch

Just read that Liverpools German goalie made some mistakes in a big game
Wrong again, Bale won it for Wales
