Where is Boris Johnson?

Post by PDQ Mobile »

Where is Boris Johnson?
He's the Foreign Secretary, which is pretty high up in the hierarchy of Govt.
There are several international crisis and diplomatic "disturbances" going on most of the time, yet I never hear or see much of the man.
He must be the lowest profile FS for many years.
Additionally it could be argued that he, as FS, one of the Three supporters of brexit, and certainly influential in the Leave campaign, should, now that he is in Govt. make the odd statement about progress??

As it is, all that is memorable to me about him is that he has said something in the House of Commons about the EU "Whistling" for cash.
A recent visit to New Zealand led to comments about the "Haka and Glasgow on a Saturday night".
And something, ages ago, about "Brexit was going to be a Titanic success"!!

I remember him being booed at an early diplomatic meeting too.

Otherwise nothing. Nichts nada.

He's out of sight.
Which is curious?

It's now August; I imagine he'll keep a low profile until the end of May.

Ah I see. :D

I personally don't see him as PM material either though.

Walking in Wales near Dolgellau I suspect, where the pm made her momentous decision

*I got us into this mess, I am going to get us out of it*

Mind, surely they do not all go on hols at the same time? Or do they even go together?

You would like him to be in 10 Downing Street doing the same fantastic job for the UK as he did for cycling in London.

No I didn't have that in mind.
That said, could he make any more mess than the current PM?
I dare say you'd be willing to give him a try.

Only if his manifesto included making cycling safer.

Remember in the 1920s the then Colonial Secretary was thought of as a bit of a buffoon. Some chap named Winston Churchill.

He has been secretly working in Berlin

An *anti-motorist* law has just been enacted there, reports the tabloid press

Oh,I've no doubt Boris isn't a buffoon,dangerous yes a buffoon no.
I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him,the Brexit debacle is proof of that.

If you remember back to the start of the referendum debate, he was keeping a low profile then, with no clue whether he was for or against (It later came out he'd written newspaper articles from either position)
That's how he is, a complete opportunist, predicting the winning horse when it's already on the home straight, he'll sit tight till a leadership context is inevitable and then there he'll be, smelling of roses, he won't have said anything to hamper him because he won't have said anything.

That's not the point. Ambition is built on self-image.

You mean like the Boris bikes? Initiated by Ken Livingstone. Cycling was on the up well before Boris got hold of City Hall. Opportunist rather than leader. If you want to look at what could have been a revolution in London's transport, have a look at the GLC's plans in the 80's, outlawed by the Tory government.
Boris cancelled the plans to extend the congestion charge zone, something that would have benefited all London cyclists. There's a whole list of vanity projects, some have come to fruition, others have swallowed millions of pounds before falling off the table, routemaster busses, garden bridge, estuary airport, tunnel under Hyde Park, Thames cable car... scale that up to a national level and we'd all be in trouble.
