Bearing in mind that the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, merely consolidated existing statutes, it's worth bearing in mind s35

35. Whosoever, having the Charge of any Carriage or Vehicle, shall, by wanton or furious Driving or Racing, or other wilful Misconduct, or by wilful Neglect, do or cause to be done any bodily Harm to any Person whatsoever, shall be guilty of a Misdemeanor, and being convicted thereof shall be liable, at the Discretion of the Court, to be imprisoned for any Term not exceeding Two Years, with or without Hard Labour.

Bent = DownRight

I complained once about that word. Surely both are 'right'?

It's humour - clearly the rover safety bicycle is an acceptable form of transport, but if getting lower (than an ordinary) was a safety improvement, then how much more is getting lower still ;)

Somewhere on these fora I read about encounters on narrow roads
A bent rider reported how he met a combine harvester. The driver switched it off completely and invited the bentrider to go underneath
How low can one get? :wink:

The Prince Regent was able to top that....

For the record, I tried once or twice cycling up Keere Street. I failed. Pavé is like smooth tarmac compared to it. But I've seen other cyclists manage it....
Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.
Let us pass the time by performing physical experiments...

Dr Beeching was posthumously brought before a tribunal, he was found guilty (of what?) and sent to wait for the next train to call at Riccarton Junction
