(And a few smoky mirrors too, v-a-v the stock, some of which you'd swear was made for the village  )

It is a queer thing indeed, not much like Lakeside Thurrock or Merry Hill Dudley
Is the word 'village' still current to describe Brill, for example?

Them's Buckenamshire them are. Hushed tones, for there be dragons, we are sure. Interesting place in itself actually, with an industrial heritage all of its own, a tramway, and much else. Still a funny bunch mind :D

The village is actually quite small and bounded by railway, A41, and a stream. Now they have park and rides in all directions it's no problem for local residents. The centre of the town has also been extensively regenerated and is thriving. Not sure how much was planned and how much serendipity was involved, but all in all quite a good effort!

ETA
Also an eco town (proving to be quite a difficult sell aiui) and a massive self-build development on the former Graven Hill military depot site.

I heard that Pesda (Bethesda) Welsh for adjustable spanner is "goriad all sizes".

Staudenfreude, another German word I dreamed up
A Stau is a traffic jam, Staudenfreude is the Schadenfreude one enjoys at home hearing on the radio where the jams are

Fremdschaemen is a new word I did not dream up, it means to be ashamed on behalf of others, used in connection with jungle camp on tv for example

My wife is a Tealoader. That is, someone who does not stand her round when it comes to tea making.

I think it's mine, thought up a few days ago, unless someone has heard it before?

Tealoader from freeloader? Brand new to me
Does the ausgleichende Ungerechtigkeit (compensating unfairness) apply? That means she gets her desserts, she makes no tea and you make no Christmas dinner, +/-1
