Anyone remember the Ever Ready 'Rearguard'? That wasn't.....
Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.
Let us pass the time by performing physical experiments...

Mine worked well.
It was bright and it was reliable. Commuted with it for years.
Latterly, I used Nicads in it recharging every night before the ride in every morning.
I used an Ever Ready front light too and used a xenon high wattage bulb. Nicads in that too, but needed one pair to get me to work, and another pair to get me home.

The trick was to use Vaseline on the contacts and keep them clean and well "sprung" so they made a good contact.
