plague of slugs
Well not quite a plague. over the last couple of months we've had an influx of slugs in the house absolutely no idea how they get in. If I come down early morning about 6.30 there have been a couple on the floor in the kitchen. they only seem to concentrate on one area near the washing machine and tumble dryer. This morning I came down no sign of them, it's not every day we get them perhaps twice a week tops. But them as I went to use the bread board I spotted the silvery trails across it. It's driving Mrs FW and me daft, I've been round the outside of the kitchen with sand and salt against the wall slug pellets etc. there has been the odd occasion where I've seen the trails on the carpet but they don't lead anywhere??? just a circle of silvery trail, eh, no way in no way out. I had thought of leaving some beer out in a dish but then we might end up with two "rat legged" cats
I think they are leopard slugs as opposed to the big fat brown ones.
Any ideas anyone

Re: plague of slugs
I had a similar problem earlier in the year. I know that mine came in on the bottom of something bought in from outside. They could eat food donated by the budgies above and must have been getting their water from condensation (which is probably why yours keep close to the washing machine).
I tried laying salt on the carpet tiles to prevent them getting between the open floor space with the food and the undercovered areas with the cold water pipes in, so that they would either dehydrate or starve.
As it happens I found the last one by treading on it at night, it was much larger than the track suggested.
The salt was a mistake, even though it did kill a few of them, it deliquesced with the moisture from the air. Now I have some corrosive wet patches of carpet that I am trying to dry and desalinate.

We occasionally get them in the house. I have seen them squeeze under the backdoor, and we once found one in the mousetrap - nasty!

I think you have to come up with some creative way of convincing us that this question is bicycle-related before we'll attend to it.
Re: plague of slugs
They can come in stuck to your bike tyres, mudguard or even bottom bracket.

Riding over a big slug isn't nice. Standing in one you sometimes get a kind of expelling of air sound or fart a large Reginald Perrin chair stylee.
I had it in my kitchen a few years back. New central heating followed by new, double glazed windows and back door stopped the ingress.
First step though was expanding foam around the pipes going through the outside wall on the inside fortunately these were hidden so I could be as messy as I needed to. Then the door and window. It was the door that was the main entry point. Perhaps brush or squeegee draft excludes around the edges.
Falling that beer traps! What a waste of beer but they kind of work. Darker bitters, ales, porters and stouts work better than rat's urine lagers you get cheaply such as the famous American brand.

In the garden we are more troubled with those large snails with big shells. One morning a number of them were crossing our road as I set off on my bike. I was able to run over quite a lot of them - crunch, crunch, crunch!

What bait were you using?

What happened to all the wasps?
We've seen slugs and snails galore as usual, but no wasps this year at all.

I think they also squeeze under our door... I do use salt around the outside... I guess the cool damp weather we have had for the latter half of the 'summer' have not helped.
As for Wasps, just come back from hollibobs to find one in the house!

Horse flies this year. Horrible!
Re: plague of slugs
You could build a small pond in the kitchen and bring in a frog or two.
That should do it.
Or maybe a hedgehog........

Pair of scissors work quite well. But don't cut in the middle try to chop it near the head end. If you cut it in the middle it's quite surprising how quick one half can slither away.
