I thought the poppies were put together by that government subsidized company that employs ppl with disabilities based near blackpool IIRC but went bust at least in part.

Firms can't really go bust in part - usually it's called downsizing or reorganisation but because this involved helping people, it seems to get a special sort of criticism. :-(

Following the loss of government contracts (usually regarded as a subsidy), Remploy closed a lot of factories and the majority of what was left was sold off to a US government contractor called Maximus (70%) and an employee trust (30%). I didn't know they had anything to do with the poppies.

Things change.

Slightly OT, but "Papworth Industries" was set up to provide work for TB sufferers in the same way as other businesses were set up to provide employment for ex-Servicemen. Their history is interesting

IIRC about half the poppies are manufactured now by "home workers" as opposed to the original factory setting

I have always thought that the poppies were made on a production line in a factory. That's why they're so simple nowadays. One petal, one leaf, and two bits of plastic clicked together.

Had to resort to Google...

I may have been wrong....

This articlesuggests a different system from the one that I knew

There appear to be three "stems" to the system, a manufacturing plant for the staple poppy, and the Lady Haig plant /home workers for the more specialist ones ..... even Ford Open Prion has an input

I know where all the poppy boxes go.
This box once contained 2000 poppies, but now it's got Percy in it. He loves boxes, and especially under the kitchen range.
