Found a couple of strange patches on the grass this morning. Close together so I assume they are related. And I have nothing beyond wild guesses about what it/they are. Anybody any ideas?
(It's not a trick question and I'm not going to give an answer later 'cos I have no real idea myself)

Natural History Question - What is this?
Re: Natural History Question - What is this?
It's powdery mildew - basically a type of fungus. Is it more prevalent in shaded areas of the lawn?

Re: Natural History Question - What is this?
Is that both patches? The 2nd non-coating patch (not so white to the right in the top picture) does not look fungus like.
I'd wondered about powdery mildew but all the photos on the internet show a much thinner coating. This stuff is quite thick.
