if you had access to bbc4 right now Cyril Haearn you would get the whole story of beeching and ernest marples( transport minister ).

Ian Hislop goes off the rails:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00drtpj

Ernest Marples. Minister of Transport 1959-1964. He oversaw both the opening of the M1, and the Beeching rail cuts. For more information follow the link.

As for Beeching - he has a road named after him in East Grinstead, where he lived. Despite the fact that it was his home town, he axed most of the railway service into that town (although one line has since been re-opened as part of the Bluebell Railway). Beeching Way in fact follows a section of the old trackbed linking Three Bridges (Crawley) and Tunbridge Wells. There's irony for you! Other sections of the closed line have become a footpath/cycleway.

The whole story? It's been a while since I saw it. Did it cover Marples's moonlit flit to Monaco to evade a tax bill?

No it was the beeching cuts and marples own interest in road building I think because of construction interests?

Sparkle's waltzing in bypassing immigration/residency/etc. checks has a few people "disappointed" when they cannot get their husbands or wives and children to come and live with them in the UK. Harry and Sparkle are not married, no kids yet she gets privilege whilst others long for their married partners to be allowed in!.

Just think what it will do for the economy!

Right now cheap workers in distant countries are producing mugs and other souvenirs, another royal baby is on the the way too, +1!

Short of England winning the football world cup, this is about they best thing to bond people together and create optimism and national pride

BTW, is anything happening in Catalonia? Weeks ago several people fled from there to Belgium (+1) but I have seen no news for a while

I don't think royal babies are cheap workers in distant countries. ;)

i read that the Spanish lawidiots cancelled the arrest warrant for whats their names in Belgium - I think they were told behind the scenes that they had fat chance of an extradition based on rebellion charges which are not covered, so avoided a public embarrasment

seems like Spain is in a mess -

The Local series of websites can be quite useful for info when the Great and Mighty BBC decides nothing is happening

Sure, but do you trust a publisher part-funded by a right-wing Metro columnist? You can find some stories they don't like from AFP on www.AFP.com/en/

When does cherry-picking certain facts and not others become fake news?

Not a lot. Looks like Catalonia has gone into a state of catatonia....

same as FA cup final day? I wonder who thought that one up. why not a week before or after?

seems to suggest arrogance or just living in a parallel universe?

Maybe there are two types of people, football fans and royalists, one imagines their royal highnesses have lots of advisers and know what they are doing
