This is powerful, especially the moment when he shouts, "Disgraceful!" - it'll likely make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

Whether it's anything whatsoever to do with Trump or not is or course debatable (at least to some morons).

Yeah, I saw that and thought it was excellent! I've often wondered how all this is going to be taught in schools in the decades to come, and it would be nice if that letter was to sneak its way into a history book!

The bit at the end, though, about them having to be prepared to defend accusations of misdeeds in court - I've got a feeling the FBI have been playing out enough rope for these clowns to hang themselves, and then they're going to come down on them like a ton of bricks. Hopefully.

In other (sad) news, though, another Capitol police officer has taken his own life - makes four altogether since January 6th (it was first stated as the third but turns out there was another one).

... and Twitter and YouTube.

Here's the application:

So today's quiz question...

Who is constrained by the First Amendment... without looking it up?
Technically congress, although that's drastically oversimplifying the issue - other parts of government are also constrained by the first amendment as a result of, amongst other things, the fourteenth.

I didn't look it up in response to your question - but had done so recently.
Yes.

This is a different case, but:

My impression these days is of a rather sad person struggling to stay in the public eye and not really succeeding. I have no idea about how prominent me is in the US but as far as UK reports go today I've seen him complaining Trump complains ‘horrible muggers and dictators’ are allowed on Twitter and he isn’t and "Trump claims Covid was ‘over’ when he left office when there was actually more than 4,000 deaths on his last day" (the sort of may twaddle we are completely used to and ignored by most people. Do these types of things really keep the electorate aware of him in the US or is he just a fading influence?

I have the feeling he has nothing to say but can't stop saying it.

He's a narcissist who actually believes the stuff he says, who has long surrounded himself with people who will not challenge him, and latterly he ran an administration which contained highly credible people (in part) whose motivation for being there was to try to ameliorate the worst effects of his policy and as far as possible prevent him causing real harm.

As a soundbite summary. I'm earnestly hoping he's become a footnote in history.

"Seven officers from the United States Capitol Police are suing former President Donald Trump, his longtime adviser Roger Stone and members of far-right extremist groups, alleging they conspired to use violence to attempt to prevent Congress from certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election on Jan. 6."

Just watched this YouTube video about same:

Word is Trump is just about to announce he's running again for POTUS in 2024 and/or the Republicans want him to be Speaker of the House if they win back the House in 2022.

I hope that the result in the California governor recall election is a indicator for the next presidential election result.
California Governor Gavin Newsom appears to have survived a rare state-wide vote to remove him with a clear majority, US media report.

Republicans launched the election over his handling of the pandemic.

The Democrat, currently in the third year of his four-year term, had faced a field of 46 candidates, and was expected to win by a large margin.

Both President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris campaigned with Mr Newsom ahead of the contest.

The BBC's US partner CBS projects that the governor will prevail, with about two-thirds of voters backing him and more than 60% of the vote tallied.
