James Ellroy, American Tabloid, esp. for those who grew up during the Kennedy era.
Have we got time for another cuppa?

Fire Season, notes from a wilderness lookout by Philip Connor, reading it again
Describes life as a fire-watcher "alone" in the wilderness (one man and his dog)
So many america books are very well written, including this one
(See also: "american spelling, unsafe at any speed" by Vorpal )

Reading it again after five years, seems quite familiar although I have read many other books in the meantime
Familiarity, is that a good sign, does it mean my brain is still working well?

'Becoming' by Michelle Obama looks very interesting, saw a film about Barack and her a while ago, looks like she could be smarter than he

Finally I would suggest a look at Nick Cranes accounts where he cycles in some very remote areas eg Tibet,Royston Vasey and the like.
"The 39 Stops"----is that the alternative version where, on the run Richard Hannay, has a brew at every hostelry he comes across----

The Cicero trilogy by Richard Harris. Political life in Rome written by Ciceros scribe. A gripping read from Republic to Ceasars Dictatorship. Compelling stuff from the Author of Fatherland. His novel Pompeii is a gripping read too.

Hi there, Buy a Kindle then put all of the John Buchan books on it. Real boys own stuff. Add all of the "Bulldog Drummond" books as well.

Just read Lorna Doone, excellent: you can see why it’s a classic
