......... the Andrew/William situation?
As I said, it's debatable.

No it's not - there is a clear line of succession as detail in this article.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... ssion.html

There was a "clear line of succession" in 1461. Didn't matter.
There was a "clear line of succession" in 1553. Didn't matter.
There was a "clear line of succession" in 1668. Didn't matter.
These things aren't fixed.

That was when the monarchy mattered and I think was all before such things were laid down by act of Parliament but ok who do you think will be king if Charles dies before the Queen.

Oh, it'll be Bill, but mainly because he's popular, not because what's currently written matters.

Edward aka the Black Prince. I'm sure there must be others but he's the only one I can think of without looking it up.

Yes his son Richard II got the job when grandad died. But it didn't work out too well, he got sacked by his friendly cousin Henry.

Yes, wars have been fought .................

I agree that William will succeed, but as mjr says, it's the popularity of him. There would be no popularity for Andrew and Beatrice after him.

William would be king because that is how the succession works now. They don't look back to the Plantagenets or Tudors for guidance on how to do it. There is a set way of doing it now.

After William it's William's children - so George and then Charlotte - and currently his wife is pregnant with a third. After that it's Prince Harry. Andrew is a long way down the line of succession.

I think he's been the only one and it was 600odd years ago. Not happened since.

That sounds like the sort of thing we'll end up getting - out of the EU so the Remainers aren't happy but still close enough & expensive enough that the Leavers aren't happy either! :?

George IV's only legitimate child Charlotte , Princess of Wales , died before him so his brother William succeeded him. Both William's legitimate children died before him so he was succeeded by the next in line, his niece Victoria.

Things would have been very different if illegitimate children could have succeeded - the brothers George and William had about fourteen between them.

What about a gay Prince of Wales and who marries a man, and who then have a surrogate child?
Would he/she be in line to the throne?
