Eleven Pubs
Eleven Pubs
Black blobs on the map are the boozers.
I've calculated that it'll be about a nine mile walk/stagger.
Note all the chevrons on the hills.
If we can get to the first one as they open at noon, we should be able to finish at the last one before they close for the night.
Route suggested .....................
Leave Gunnislake village for the White Hart at Chilsworthy (top left)
Rifle Volunteer at St Annes Chapel
Carpenters Arms at Lower Metherell (bottom left)
Calstock (bottom right) Tamar Inn, Boot Inn and Calstock Social Club
All the way up to the Queens Head in Albaston (centre)
Down the steep hill to the Rising Sun, then the three pubs back in the village - Cornish Inn, Buccaneer Inn and Tavistock Arms.
Good idea, or what?

I could handle the walk but not the beer.
Re: Eleven Pubs
Wine?
Gin and Tonic?
No doubt we'll have to eat. Peanuts?
Most of the pubs do food, plus there's a chippy enroute.

40 yrs ago I’d have thought it a great idea. Nowadays I’d spin that out over 11walks, 11days, 11lunches.....what’s the rush?

When you have had your practice run, try Otley where there are something like twenty, only recently reduced from half as many again.
(In the days of strict licensing hours, Otley had all-day opening for the refreshment of persons attending the cattle market, or words to that effect. The scrapping of the old licensing laws reduced the attraction of the place for sessions drinkers.)

Percussive maintainance, if it don't fit, hit it with the hammer.

Nearly 40 years ago a few friends and I used to do similar hike-cum-crawls around the pubs of the Staffordshire moorlands, centred on the campsite behind the George at Alstonefield. Most of them, surprisingly, are still open, with the exception of the Cavalier Inn at Grindon. Happy days!

All the towns round here did. You could do Sleaford Monday, Spalding or Melton Tuesday, Boston Wednesday, Bourne Thursday, Stamford Friday and Grantham Saturday.
Alternatively you could just go to one of the many village pubs where the Lincolnshire licensing laws applied.

Abingdon claimed to have more pubs than anywhere else
Entertainer, juvenile, curmudgeon, PoB, 30120
Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

I'm originally from Ilkeston, in Derbyshire, which, for its size, had a lot of pubs, many of them very rough, in line with most of the rest of the town.

Best sort - proper drinking men's pubs. Not many around like that now.

Well yes, up to a point. There are still quite a lot like that in Ilkeston, as far as I can tell from infrequent visits nowadays. None of the Nottingham beers that dominated the area in the 70's still exist, though a couple of the brewery names persist, selling rather different beers.
