I don't know whether Frank Zappa rode a bicycle, but he played it.

More Edwardians.
Thomas Hardy
H.G.Wells
G.B.Shaw
A.Einstein
I guess cycling was a new, big thing, and there were many fewer cars.
Alexei Sayle, who like many of us, does not have an ideal cyclist's figure.

I have read that he was a terrifying driver.

I have read that he was a terrifying driver.

Fortunately he travelled by train mostly I hope
Very fortunately he wrote about it

Coming up England by a different line..
Swerving east from rich industrial shadows
And traffic all night north..
'Church going', describes visiting a church by bike

+1!
Mind, he gave up cycling a hundred years ago when motor traffic got too much
When he was knighted he cycled to Stoke Prior to tell his dad
+99 for Elgar and Malvern
The bike has no spokes, where is the statue?

It's in Hereford, on the green alongside the cathedral.

Hereford? Malvern!
The Master is in at least two places at once
I used to live in 'Moel Bryn' so I think Elgar is the greatest
Anyone disagree?

Kraftwerk were well known for being dropped off the Tour Bus with their bikes and cycling the rest of the way.

At some points they were clocking up 200 km per day.

Having seen Elgar's statue in Malvern a few years ago, I was a bit surprised to find one in Hereford too.
Maybe he cycled from Hereford (bike statue) to Malvern and was a bit thirsty, so they put a statue by the drinking fountain.

I'm not certain if I'd call him the Master, as I preferred Vaughan Williams myself, but old Edward seems to have more gravitas.

It is difficult for me because I lived in Bonn too, maybe Beethoven is even better than Sir Edward
People thought B was crazy, that is a good sign

He did cycle to Hereford, the cover of the book shows him riding towards 'Black Swan Green' *
I must visit EEs birthplace!

Thanks, but no more touring books for me at the moment.

We stayed on a campsite in Lower Broadheath a couple of years ago and cycled past The Firs several times.
Likewise, we've done the same to his resting place too.
fausto.

P.S. Mrs Copy absolutely delighted with the Penmaenmawr book you recommended and certainly put me in her good books for buying it for her.
