Congratulations to you both.
How gratifying it must be to know you made such good choices half a century ago that they still hold true. I know such things are down to far more than luck and it's something not many of us will ever have the satisfaction of. I haven't always understood the "Congratulations" thing, but it's very much the right word.

When we reached n° 25 she said to me "instead of some useless bit of silver, why don't we get bikes?" and we did. 10 years ago the cardiologist who was shoving in my first stent told me "without the cycling you'd have been here 10 years ago". Thank you missus.

It's a bit fatuous to wish you another happy 50, but I reckon we could aspire to 25. Here's hoping.

We're 45 this November.
I was chatting to someone the other day, and she has just divorced. She's 40 and they'd been married something less than 20 years. Four children. It seems that the husband was a control freak and eventually, she'd had enough and left.

I was saying that to have a long and happy marriage, you need give and take on both sides. You both need to make sure the relationship works despite inevitable ups and downs. It's good to argue and bicker, but you must always make up and agree, and never ever ever hold a grudge or let it fester.

Some would say that you need to work at it to get a good relationship. I say, it's not work at all, it's an absolute pleasure. It's simple and easy, but you both need to want it.

Similarly, when we reached No.25 we decided to treat ourselves and bought a custom-made tandem.
We used to tour on it, but since getting the motorhome we limit ourselves to taking the two solos away with us.
Mind you, tandems aren't for everyone. One couple on the trial weekend we attended nearly got divorced, as the lady didn't like being on the back and was obviously of the opinion that she should be in charge.
Mrs. Copy merely screamed at me to slow down on the steep hills.
She still does.
