I thought I had heard of your smart horse. He was Clever Hans.

This article suggests an explanation of his feats.
It's the same the whole world over

It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

Right again, I encountered him recently at the horse museum in Verden (we call it Pferden, Pferd = horse)
There was an exhibition about horse stories there, one of the best was from Russia, Der buecklige Pferd, the crooked horse. He is small and ugly but has magical powers that the big beautiful horses do not

Actually I know horses are not so smart, they think bents are hunting animals as reported elsewhere on these fora

Kommissar Rex is a police dog who nabs more villains than all the human cops in Wien, if the tivi series is to be believed

It would be interesting to know how he was persuaded to perform his tricks. Maybe some scenes had to be shot more than once

One of my relations had a Siamese cat. It had it's nasty ways and one day I caught sight of it making a lunge for me.
My reaction was to slap my knees together trapping it's head - didn't come near me after that.

Cats can learn then? A scotch proverb claims that a horse never forgets

But would you be happy & relaxed around a cat the size of this fellow?

(Jake, 66 kilos, loved everybody. RIP)

And wrt that video: isn't it curious the way they have two cameras all ready to film the "unprovoked" attack?

Anyone got experience with Irish Wolfhounds?
They are very big, high but not bulky
I have read conflicting opinions about their temperament

Are they more stupid than cats?

I don't know but it's curious that someone might suggest the parents would set this up with consequent risk to their child just to make a youtube video. The houses had cctv surveillance systems which is what the footage is taken from.

clearly more than one camera has been used, so more than one feed has been joined together: Now had the feeds followed the dog then we know it was a set up? but here just 3 different feeds?

OK. Also accounts for the difference in quality. On first viewing I didn't let it run to gruesome bit at the end - thought maybe it was family dog with a habit of grabbing the kid's pants.

Berger allemand in French, Schäferhund in Alsacien. Alsatian in English is WW1 vintage. But Jake was a Leonberg.
