Yes spotted my first at the weekend near Lancaster. Just as well as there are a plague of flying insects for them to eat!

I visited a friend near Paddock Wood last Friday and we cycled to the coast at New Romney. It made a pleasant change for me, gloriously flat apart from the climb back up to the High Weald, and I saw my first swallow of the year over Romney Marsh.

I had 30-50 (and 2 or 3 house martins) of them on my Sunday constitutional but they were all on one of the arms of the river Cam flying really low, only lifting out of the river channel to turn around. To be fair it was only 4 degrees and if not blowing a gale it certainly felt like it, so they had probably all gathered at the one place they knew that they could find some insects.
Sunnier today and there were a dozen or so at the university farm prospecting nest sites so hopefully things return to normal soon

On a July house move last year,we inherited swallows nesting in the gable end.Fine, except the path below, used as our main entrance, was a mess so this year we deterred them from nesting. They appeared in our town,Dalbeattie, last week and were twittering about their old nest site on the 28th April and did not return.

Is a couple of months of bird crap on a path that bad?
Think yourself lucky you don't have Grey Squirrels living in your loft space!

I allowed swallows to nest in the garage of our last house.....once.Droppings all over, smell,no thanks.I,m personally not fussy about trailing muck into the house on a wet day as I can,t afford a divorce.

I find it hard to swallow that a few migratory birds could threaten a sound marriage made in heaven

I saw three this morning! :D

One swallow does not a summer make, so three must be summer.
