The Nidd's a Yorkshire River. Spa's other saddles are named after Yorkshire Rivers - e.g. the Calder, the Aire, the Wharfe, Don, Esk and Foss...........and there may be others which I've forgotten in my ignorance.

Obviously, the saddle names follow a theme of Rivers - go with the flow, eh?.

I was Cycling out of Harrogate 17 yrs ago this June. I was on the right road out and I was going to call in and introduce myself. Put a face to the voice on the phone. Concentrating on so much traffic I missed their road end and was out of Harrogate before I realised.
They’ve moved since then I believe.

Been to Harrogate but never to Spa Cycles, there is a thread now about Spa, apparently the website is not so modern, is that right? Is Spa a bit old fashioned, plusminus.

I've been to both the old and the new shops. The old shop was like walking into Aladins Cave - bikes and lots of bits on display, but not in an organised fashion. They also had a garage out the back where they kept a lot of their touring bikes. The new shop is a large warehouse, with a small shop at the front. They will have probably 10 bikes on display, along with some clothing and bags. I prefer a shop where everything is on display, but I understand that is wasteful of space and the warehouse is more space efficient. The staff are very knowledgeable. I don't think the owner was there when I visited the new shop. It's actually quite a way from the centre of Harrogate, at a place called Starbeck. The road leading to the shop is right next to Starbeck railway station.

I used to like going to Spa when I lived over that way, right 'andy, and the butchers opposite the

entrance to Spa's road sold excellent pork pies.

I'd look better in loose fitting Crimplene than Lycra as a result of me Yorkshire pie habit.
