We were down in Saltash/Carkeel doing a spot of shopping - Lidl's as well.
The roads were deserted and Lidl carpark was easy to park for a change. Didn't notice an issue with stock levels.

I wish they had big football matches on every day. The roads were empty. :D

The World Cup comes but once every 4 years.
Likewise the Olympics.
I wish Xmas were the same... :(

It's hard to compare. In France Rugby (XV), Handball and Football are on equal standings, Le Tour is a national monument and probably bigger than the world cup in any sport, or the Olympics, but I don't know that any other road races get the same attention.
In Belgium there is Handball and Basketball, but Cycling is the second state religion.

And meanwhile....
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-44756829
Can anyone blame me (an Englishman, by birth) if I say I earnestly hope the England team lose the next match?

Can anyone blame me if I say, that whenever I hear the word "football" uttered, my gut reaction is to mouth the word "hooligan"?

If it really was all about competitive sport, confined to the playing-field, fine and good. But it isn't.

In Norfolk there were no football related arrests, Normal for Norfolk, Plus One
Can't think of any Croatian organisations to boycott

Maybe it would be worth boycotting the Tour de France?
