Actually, bananas are not such a good example because they travel fairly efficiently by ship, rather than flown like beans from Kenya. Welsh bananas are hard to come by, but I do try to buy Welsh stuff where it is practical.

They are taken by road to and from the ports
More energy is used to keep them from ripening

I am lucky, can do without bananas but some people just LOVE them

Saw a car sticker in gothic script:
"German citizens, buy German bananas!"

One good thing about bananas is that they provide carbohydrates in a moist palatable package that is easy to consume on the go. If I had never heard of bananas I know I could manage without them, but I've been eating them for more than fifty years and they are a habit. Like coffee.

No Shimano components for you then!

Suntanning saloons

Is there anything more unnecessary?

Never been to one mind, can't stop using them. Can one only "boycott" something one has used?

You clearly need to use one once, so that you can then boycott them and never use them again. I'm surprised you hadn't thought of that. I recommend all-over deep bronze.

My boycott list is so long I sometimes forget what's on it.
But seriously, when I'm really determined to boycott a company or product for a specific reason, I do email/write to tell them, and tell them why - -plus what I want them to do to get my business back so it isn't just a whinge, but offers a way out. If people don't tell them, it's not likely to be effective. They may just assume their advertising agency or retailers are to blame for not pushing their products, for example.

Landsurfer is the salt in the porridge, he has some opinions one might not share, but it is boring when lots of people agree and keep writing "Plus One"

Besides, landsurfer knows about tigers. And he works on the railway and looks after his tiny grandchild :D
