65 arghh!
Hi folks, reached my 65th birthday today and woke up with splitting migraine (no alcohol or drugs involved) and turned to look at the clock and tweaked my back
We'd planned a short walk this afternoon followed by an afternoon tea.
It's pi**ing down and have checked with the tearoom to find it's fully booked (who put Father's Day down on my birthday ).
Oh well, I've always felt it's been downhill all the way since my 60th.
fausto.

You youngsters are all the same.
Happy Birthday! And think on, the next one will be here in to time.

Yes, HB from me too!
I remember reading something about how time flies as you get older. Some mathematician had worked it out using maths - of all things! - and he said .....................
When you're two, a year is half your life.
When you're four, it's only a quarter.
When you're ten, it's only 10%.
You see where we're going here.
The older you get, the faster the years appear to go by.
This mathematician bloke reckoned that you are half way through your life at 19 years old.
Someone correct me on the 19 bit please. Could have been 16 perhaps.
I can't remember my Calculus as I'm too old and it was a long time ago.

Re: 65 arghh!
I thought that that mathematician was me but plenty of people must have worked it out.
I think another thing is the way the memory works: unusual stuff sticks, routine doesn't. So, if you have something like a week's holiday in an unusual place, it seems longer looking back than a week of routine because there's more remembered. I've emphasised looking back, because time flies when you are enjoying yourself, of course.

Re: 65 arghh!
I wished I could turn the clock back 10 years and be 65 again.
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday
There is your way. There is my way. But there is no "the way".

Happy Birthday Fausto
My own experience it was all downhill from 55 but from 65 it’s been going steadily uphill. I hope you’ve a long steady climb ahead.

Re: 65 arghh!
Thank you folks for all your good wishes.
I've still got the pounding headache, but we visited friends and managed a short (and damp) walk.
On returning to their house, Megan brought out a lovely apple cake that she had made as she knew we wouldn't be getting to the tearoom,
although she had no idea it was my birthday.
We spent the next two hours taxing the old grey cells with a game of Rummikub; most entertaining.
On leaving I was gifted a jar of their new-season honey, which, having tasted it, is divine and for some strange reason has stimulated some memory from childhood. I can't work out what exactly it reminds me of....some type of sweet, or even medicine of some sort.
And here's a somewhat bizarre question for you:
Now that most (if not all) pensions are paid electronically, what would you say is the modern equivalent of that old favourite birthday present for senior citizens, the inscribed leather pension book holder.
Cheers, fausto.
P.S. Not sure about toner Colin, but I could definitely do with some sort of tonic.
And thanks for that cheerful thought Mercalia

Re: 65 arghh!
Have you got a bus pass?
I was allowed mine at 62.
My sister lives in Wales, and she can't use her bus pass in England as it's not valid this side of the border, unless her journey commences in Wales.
I remember reading that when they first came out, a chap took the bus (busses) from LE to JOG .......... so his bus pass must have worked Cornwall/England/Scotland.

Longafarchidau! Time to switch from miles to km so a century is much easier?
By my calculation you were born on a very significant day in German history, it was a bank holiday in the BRD until 1990, did you know that?
Now 3.10 is a holiday instead
