We recently had a few days pootling around the Salisbury area and I was absolutely delighted to come across (actually ride under) some huge beech trees. I recollect one grove on the way to Salisbury from Upper Woodford and a couple near Ebbesbourne Wake and yet another north of Sixpenny Handley, heading over Cranbourne Chase.
I know there are several famous old beech trees I could google, but I was really pleased to come across these on our travels.
Well done Wiltshire.
One thing lacking here in on the West Wales coast is splendid trees; beech are my favourite and the one impressive stand in the county has sadly been chopped down.
fausto.
