The hot weather could last until october

Post by Username »

According to the Met Office, the hot hot weather currently being experienced in the UK and Europe could last until October due to an unusual weather phenomenon called "summer".

Then something called "winter" begins almost immediately, quite unexpected :?
Nobody is ready for that but I am ready to buy Christmas food that appears in the shops in September :D

No it couldn't...I've off camping for two weeks from this weekend so expect rain, rain and more rain.

Actually I think that we all know the reliability of 'long range forecasting' , thus they are factually correct in that it 'could' last for ages, just as it 'could' be unseasonably cold for the rest of the year. Is this DM style reporting - taking something that is a possibility, however small, and hyping it up such that it looks like it will almost certainly happen?

How reliable are thermometers? In particular, in-car thermometers?

Today we decided it was too hot and unpleasant to cycle to our regular U3A group (a distance of about 4-5 miles). Not so much because of the heat, as because most of the route is unavoidably along a main road and the traffic-induced smog (exhaust, ozone, NOx, etc.) makes it quite unpleasant at the moment. So we drove (hence adding to the smog  - you needn't remind me!)

Our car thermometer registered 31C throughout the journey. I didn't think it was that hot, but certainly in the high 20s.
Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.
Let us pass the time by performing physical experiments...

Out riding this morning. Left soon after 9am.
Started off from home at 18degC. Shorts, cycling sandals, short-sleeved top, cycling cap.
Out in the Devon hills, it dropped to 16deg C and in Tavistock it was 19degC, then home at 19degC

Black clouds about, blue sky as well, and sunshine too ......................... and it's 22degC now.

Winter jacket?
I'd bake in one!

The hot weather could last until october

Obviously only means London area. 8)
The other day she, who reports the weather on TV, said the temperature was below average for the time of year.
Last year I remember that August was a wash out and coincided with school hol's. :(
You'll never know if you don't try it.
