Inspirational indeed! Looking at the thread title, I thought it'd be about cyclists just over 64. How wrong I was!

I'd love to say something inspiring to my fellow bridge-players - mostly in their 60s and 70s - who, every time I show up at the club, remark "did you really cycle all that way Peter?" It's only 10 miles each way, almost all level, and on quiet country lanes most of the way. A doddle really, for me: but then, I'm 'only' 68. I'd just like to think I could fire up at least one fellow 'oldie' to take to the saddle - but I fear I'm punching at air....

I know folk who look older than that in their 60s.

Wonderful! :D

I had the privilege of meeting Ron Beams on a number of occasions. He and the "Midweek Wayfarers"were an inspiration. They had 14 members over 80!

Ron celebrated his 99th Birthday on his Trice, but unfortunately died a few weeks short of his century.

Wonderful!

Is it the cycling that keeps them going or do they keep going so they can cycle.

Hope I can emulate their achievement as the years roll by. :)

Inspirational and wonderful two words others have used and I totally agree. This should be used to promote cycling as often as possible.

I think it might put people off. They want to see young, trendy people riding bikes. But more fool them. I've just got back from a few days' cycle camping - I'm 65 and have never felt fitter. It's incredible.

Was that the Kennet and Avon? The accents sounded right for that area.
