No, not any more, but I'm of the Square Eyes Generation.

Grown out of TV now and the dross they put on, but we still watch stuff on the screen. DVDs, recorded stuff, Youtube, Netfix etc but we chose what we want to watch and when if ever to watch it.

Nothing been on today so far.
Yesterday, we watched one single movie - Birdcage - starring Robbie Williams. Excellent! :D
This evening, we have yet to pick something - or nothing at all.

Fire lit, clocks ticking, bliss.

Still not bitten my nails.
Must've stopped now nine months or more, and still have no compulsion to bite them at all.

It's very odd indeed.

Did you cook something that left a particularly pungent and unpleasant smell on your hands? Or maybe a dirty job involving getting dirty hands that put you off, maybe without realising?

I don't know.
I just stopped, and didn't realise I had until I noticed that I had un-bitten nails.
60odd years of being a nail-biter, then stopped without even knowing I'd stopped.

I can't get my toes in my mouth.

Personally I only ever bit my nails when I noticed they had grown too long and I didn't have nail cutters handy. In fact I mostly cut my finger nails with my teeth. I've learnt to get a better result than any nail clippers I've got.

Note that my biting of nails isn't a habit only a necessity. It is grooming with teeth not a nervous habit. So I really don't know anything about why MF gave up suddenly, I don't understand habits like nail biting. Could it be that you are just in a very settled, relaxed and happy stage of life? You don't need nervous release anymore?

BTW I don't know if the fact I don't really drink alcohol or particularly like it now something similar?

You are giving up one of life's little pleasures, Mick. It can be dangerous to bite one's nails, risking the pain of getting down to the quick, but nothing beats the feeling (slight dopamine rush?) of a cleanly and uniformly, tooth stripped nail.

Next you'll be telling us you're giving up ale and will be joining a monastery of ascetic monks. When should we start to worry?

Start to worry when I give up beer and/or when I stop posting on this forum!
Both of which give me much pleasure.

I have always bitten a corner of my nail then peeled it back. Fingers with nails cannot pick up small objects, M2 - M3 nuts, grub screws etc.
And when playing rugby if left to protrude beyond the finger tip nails can be ripped off when grabbing an opponents shirt.
