Hell On A Cycle Path.

Post by NATURAL ANKLING »

Hi,
Out the other day-
Car pulls across my path entrance to cycle path.
Stops abruptly so I cannot proceed safely.
I tap on rear window.
All hell breaks lose.
Driver gets out swearing cussing...........I own the land adjacent been in family for 300 years etc, etc etc.
Refuses to move.
I turn around and cycle back a minute later.
No intention of moving.
I pass as safe as I can on right.
Car chases me revving engine down cycle path (also a dead end road and bridle path)
I get off bike.
Driver grabs my bike and tosses it into hedge.
Then chasses me down the path.
More cussing insults swearing.
Punches and kicks thrown by them.
I get back to my bike and driver gets in car and drives at me on foot making contact twice.
I phone 999.
I walk away with bike down path.
Car follows me dispite I am on phone to police, and I told them.
They shout down phone at police.

I leave, get crime number........................phone 101...........that's it.
Blood on my leg at home from kick.

Ex copper persuades me to phone 101.

I have full video evidence without sound unfortuanately.

We will see, I filled in form online after failing to get through / put on hold etc etc.

I won't hold my breath.

Forget all the cycling / car aspects of that. It is assault. And the next time that happens to someone else at that location it could end up even worse.

That will leave you feeling shaken for quite a while. Immerse yourself in some place where people are nicer to restore your sense a world where things can be alright.

Grief!
Poor you!

Anything transpires yet?
Have the coppers got back to you?
Have you prodded them to do something?

Get well soon, mate.

Sounds horrible! I've had foul-mouthed rants thrown at me, we all have - but never this. Lucky you are still with us.

And hope the cops follow this up (expect to wait a month before hearing anything - this has been my experience). Best of luck.
Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.

Hi,
Sometimes mates help

Police phoned this morning, asked for videos.
I will have to post as email limit @ 25mb.

The ball is rolling.

I am unhurt and remained calm at the time.
The driver is 5'2" and 120 Ibs.............oldie too.

I will keep you updated.
Thanks for your concern, could of been far worse.

Personally I wouldn’t update on here and certainly do not post the videos anywhere, until such times as the matter has been concluded, but we are of all of course interested and glad you are alright

NO! I won't be posting any information relevant to any details of the driver etc.
As an investigation is under way.

"The driver is 5'2" and 120 Ibs.............oldie too."
This is all you will get, just to show that size does not matter.

I will not post anywhere else either.
No ones seen the evidence yet, police will be first to view, and then none till conclusion.
Thanks.

Update on progress only.

Its minor but semicircular, already done.

There does not appear to be any system even a useful app for this type of thing, would help when you don't know what to do next / whether to bother doing anything?

There probably is if I was a member.

Land owners for 300 years. Likely wealthy and influential locally. Keep on at the coppers because they're averse to prosecuting such people.

They could be in a weak position. I worked for a not-for-profit company that constructed cycle tracks on former rail lines and we dealt with owners of adjacent land. We allowed them access to some parts of the tracks with their vehicles on the understanding that they behaved in a certain way. So that they could get hay to the horses and so on. I wonder if in this case the body responsible for the cycle path might consider who has access, possibly excluding the alleged offender. That will of course depend on the exact legal rights in that location.

If it's also a bridle way it's may have been there a long time and belong to the landowner. Bridleways and footpaths are rights of way for the public over land and are not usually publicly owned. However my point wasn't about access but prosecution over the alleged assault.
