Well it wasn't our home-made sloe-and-apple jelly, at any rate. Leastways, I don't think we're missing any jars....
[It's been a marvellous year for wild sloes this year, down our way. Best crop ever.]

Apparently (not a lotta people know this) Lewis Carroll's coining of the phrase Jam tomorrow has nothing to do with the sweet sticky stuff. Instead it's a pun on the Latin word iam or jam meaning "now". According to the rules of Latin grammar (which I only dimly recall  ) the word iam can only be used in sentences in the past or future tenses: in the present tense you have to use the word nunc.

So, all there's left to say is,
Caesar adsum jam forte,
Brutus aderat,
Caesar sic in omnibus,
Brutus sic in at.

I suspect he ended up with blue berries and she with raw pips.

Pete's recollection of Latin is better than mine, after two years of it all I can remember was that first line
