New cars/motorcycles/bikes....yes.
My road bike is a 2015 model....it’s getting on abit now and looks dated.I generally replace bikes every two years for this reason.

At least train drivers don't put me in fear of my life, or shout and hoot at me, and of course train spotters are very no trouble to anyone, there at the end of the platform.
I think drivers of flashy (in their view) cars are more likely to drive aggressively and take pride in the unpleasant noise they make.

I feel you need to look up the meaning of "terrified" which surely informs the semantics of "a terrorist". There are many everyday circumstances in which one human terrorises another (has the intent to make someone terrified and carries out the actions to do so).

It's terrifying in some areas of the big cities populated by gangs. It's terrifying to be chased by a gang of football hooligans avid for violence. It's terrifying to be the partner of a violent gaslighter or the child of an abuser. It's terrifying to be out for a bike ride only to be tailgated, hooted at and close-passed (perhaps actually knocked off) by a loony motorist.

These situations are not uncommon.

I realise that you've taken the meaning of "terrorist" to refer only to politically or religiously-motivated sub-groups, such as the Orangemen of NI and others, who go about threatening violence and often carrying it out. But there are other forms of everyday terrorists who actually kill and maim far more than the mad political or religious loons. One large group of such terrorists are the aggresive motorists who kill and maim large numbers every year in Blighty alone. Many more just do the terrorising but, happily, balk at actually running us over.

For some reason of your own you want to deny that cyclists are frightened by drivers. You are on a loser there. Look at the thread on cycling on fast dual carriageways. Many would not do it.
Look at the many threads on close passes. There are many more examples. All about cyclists changing their behaviour because they are physically frightened.
You personalise this. I have taken part in sports that most drivers would not. Solo rock and ice climbing and single handed sailing in small boats. Many drivers say they would not cycle on the road from fear of traffic. There are cyclists who do not ride on roads.
What annoys me about the risks I run on the road is that I am at the mercy of drivers who are well protected from the consequences of their mistakes. My health is threatened by their carelessness, or their lack of emotional maturity, and there is a limited amount I can do about it.
I remember riding on a fast, rural road. When I heard a fast car approaching from behind my body tensed, readying itself for impact. My neck and shoulders stiffened.

The thing I find strange is that certain people in society are referred to as "Snowflakes" and here we have older and(allegedly)wiser people throwing words like "terrorised" and terrorists" to describe the simple act of riding a bike
If you feel "terrified" to ride or even go out at night because of gangs then IMO that says more about the fragility of your mental state than it does about the alleged "terrorists"

You're actually more likely to be a victim of violent crime during the day, but society doesn't let an inconvenient fact get in the way of a good preconception.

Of course! How simple the 100% JR (Ewing?) view of the world is! The reasons why decades of mere exhortation and encouragement has failed to preserve or restart mass cycling in the UK isn't because it's overwhelmed by inadequate policing (resources? leadership?) and anti-social motoring-supremacist road designs of the last 40ish years - it's because the people are mental!

That's a staggering lack of empathy on show there, or something.

From another thread:-
100%JR wrote:I disagree with the word terrorise.I have never met anyone “terrified” or “terrorised” on the road.If someone is I suggest they need help in general to cope with society.
This Forum is getting more anti-car everyday.
No wonder “cyclists” are hated by the mainstream

I've had drivers on a few of occasions try to terrorise me by deliberately trying to knock me off and similarly so on the tandem rendering Mrs R2 to tears,I've been brake checked, has missiles thrown at me from passing cars and on one occasion had a car drive along side me then slowly try to drive me into the kerb which led to fisticuffs, the driver came off worst.
I've also had a chap in Merc Sprinter try to knock me off then tell me through an open window that he was going to kill me with his van.
These incidents along with a few more happened over a number of years and with no other reason than me being there.
I've also had quite a few incidents when driving that weren't as threatening only because I was in my car at the time.
I'm not by any means anti car, driving between 8k and 10k miles a year, but I am against morons who drive, which it seems is due to little chance of being caught and is IMO on the increase.

Just to add,IMO cyclists aren't hated by the mainstream, they're hated by a minority of idiots who drive and by a minority of loud mouthed gutter press journalists who specialise in picking on minority groups they can't be prosecuted for victimising.

You say "terrorise" and I don't agree.Comparing what you describe to someone blowing up a Hotel or Bus or killing people on a London bridge is poles apart.
It is not "terrorism" in any shape or form

Reminds me of a bloke I went MTBing with who claimed £3.80 for a post ride pint in Bakewell was "absolutely horrific".OK it might be a bit out of the way to charge that but "absolutely horrific"???...er not really

But comparing a terrorist atrocity to everyday roads deaths is not poles apart. Remember three cyclists wiped out at once?
I have heard policemen trying to describe the horror of a nasty murder resort to comparing the wounds with a road accident.
When people are deterred from activities they would otherwise enjoy by fear of death and maiming it is not a big step from terrorist bombs frightening people from using the tube..
There are obvious differences, but not poles apart.
Thirty five people a week are killed on the road, so people are correct to fear traffic.

Terrorising people takes many forms and whilst I agree bombing a hotel or similar is a world away from some maniac intentionally trying to run someone off the road, the result on the victim can be the same ie; injury to a lesser or greater extent or death or even just to frighten them into not using a hotel or not riding a bicycle on the road.
From the lunatic perpetrator's POV,his/her actions whether that be to blow up a hotel killing or maiming many people or intentionally running someone off the road,is to terrorise the victim(s),the effect of his/her actions on the victim is to be terrorised.
Whether the victim is terrorised to the point of not using a hotel ever again or not riding on the road again is upto the individual.
Story alert:-
This happened to me a couple of years ago.
Climbing an exposed hill on a very wide road about five miles from where I live with a high teens low twenties MPH crosswind from my left so blowing me inot the road,I was doing maybe 5mph max and struggling to keep the bike in a straight line due to the wind and the slow speed.
An HGV a couple or three cars pass me with 2m plus room without them being anywhere near the centre line of the road the road is so wide.
I then I get a really close <0.6m pass from a big black Jag,my reaction was to shout WHAT THE F*** the Jag drives off,but then waits for me in a layby about 400m up the road.
As I approach the drivers side window is down and tattooed bodybuilder's type arm is out of the window along with a dyed blonde haired head which is hurling derogatory abuse in my direction.
I ask what was all that about?
More abuse.
It's a lonely place with no one about and I'm feeling vulnerable so I continue.
Said Jag then comes up along side me with more abuse being hurled with threats of what he's going to do to me from his nearside window.
The kerb is low at this point so I hop up lean the bike on a fence and stand there without a word waiting for goonie to finish his tirade, which he does and drives off.
I note the reg plate
At the top of the climb there's a T junction where the road I'm on joins a major A road, with a car wash directly opposite and sure enough goonie in Jag is parked up in the entrance waiting,my ride is to turn right, but I don't I ride into the car wash along side his driverside door,he has the window down, but now there are lots of people about cleaning cars with a couple of cars waiting in a queue.
I ask, what are you going to do now mister, now there's a lot of witnesses around,he seems to be stumped,so I just stand there straddling the bike.
After what seems like an age with a couple of more derogatory comments(at a volume that only I can hear) he drives off.
I report it the police on my mobile with a full description of the driver, even his accent (which was local),the car and reg plate, and I'm told the plate doesn't match the car but matches a white transit van.
Would you call that, normal everyday encounter or attempt at terroism?

I suspect your friend's reaction to the £3.80 pint was intentionally hyperbolic to emphasis the price of an expensive pint.

No terror/terrified are words over used to make something quite trivial seem far worse than it is.
It's a form of attention seeking.A "my experience is far worse than yours" statement

Bullying?Intimidation?
Nowhere near terrorism IMO.
As I said above the word is over used.

Had he said "disgusting" or "that's not on" then I would agree it could be hyperbolic...but "absolutely horrific"?The words exchanged after he made the stupid statement suggested he did indeed think it was "absolutely horrific".
(he's not my friend BTW but a friend of a friend who I no longer waste time talking to as he generally over exaggerates everything).

A threat to my my life cannot be terrfying because you disagree with the use of that word in a cycling context?
