We're getting a puppy

Post by Mick F »

We're getting a puppy. :D :D
This new one - all border collies - will be our fifth.

Sally in 1974
Megan in 1982
Rascal in 1991
Phoebe in 1996

......... and now our new one in 2019.
He's only six weeks old, so it'll be a few weeks yet before we can take him home.

Guess his name.
His father is called Jack.

Sally and Megan
Megan and Rascal
Rascal and Phoebe
All border collies.

We have three cats now.
Sadie, Nellie and Percy.
Sadie was a rescue cat, and the other two just arrived as strays and set up home here.

Puppy?
How will he get on with the cats?
How will the cats receive a puppy?

How will the parrot cope?
We've had her since being a youngster in 1985.

Well - whatever its name is - I'm sure as dammit, it won't be "Fruit".

P.S. Look up the article. Jackfruit is cited as one of the new 'wonder foods' that might 'save the planet' (though I seriously doubt it!). Apparently it can be made into an excellent vegan substitute that's supposed to resemble pulled pork. Another thing I seriously doubt. I haven't tried it.

Nor has your doggie, I suspect...

Bobby?... (Charltons)

Having made my living with collies I sadly can’t remember them all. Always had between 2 to 5 at anytime for 40 yrs there’s been a lot. Coupled with
1 Lakeland terrier
1 whippet lurcher
3 jack Russells
2 Labs

We’ve been married over 45 yrs and never without a dog until the last four months since the last lab died. We are now enjoying the freedom of being petless. ( apart from 4 hens  ) Holidays are a lot different there’s no longer one of us standing outside, of wherever, holding the dog while the other is within.
We were staying at Hawes last week walking far further than we ever could with an old lab. Also loads of traditional narrow stone stiles which the lab was to wide to get through and too heavy to lift over. Enjoy your pup Mick I’ve said it will lead to divorce if another comes in this house. I’ve a lot of being dogless years to catch up on. :D
Whatever I am, wherever I am, this is me. This is my life

We've got a 15 week old Standard Poodle and a 6 year old one. Also have 2 elderly cats. One of the cats avoids the dogs completely. The other cat tolerates the older dog. With the pup if he is lying in the shed he will let the pup sniff then extend a claw if the pup persists. Caught in the open he runs which triggers the chase from the pup.

Both the dogs are getting on fine.

the best pets are my 3 ( I think ) squirrels . I give them a few black sunflower seeds in the morning, they then sling their hook and go off where ever. very low maintenance pets, no vets fees, no need to buy a bed for them, they look after themselves. best type of pet I think

Used to take neighbours dog walking, borrowing a pet is best
What is the parrot called?
Entertainer, juvenile, curmudgeon, PoB, 30120
Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

I'd love to have a dog but just don't have the time to look after one properly. They need a couple of good walks a day and several toilet breaks in between, and I just can't manage that every day.

The other little thing that puts me off is how it might reduce our walking options. One of our frequent local walks includes a steel ladder down a sea cliff, so that route would be off the menu with a dog. Also, I would probably be less inclined to walk across fields with cattle, a thing I currently do quite a lot. So we don't have one.
