Reading a Pelican book (1979, 95 pence) of short stories by Katharine Mansfield, stuck my nose between the pages, smells good
Read a whole story in my lunch break, Plus Two!

I'm always nostalgic about the smell of 2 stroke exhaust, as nasty as it is.

Tommy Girl (?) body spray - an ex girlfriend of mine used to wear it and if I ever catch a whiff it really triggers those memories.

My own farts in my own car. You can savour them properly without the Missus complaining.

The wisteria just outside the garage.



I can go from warm coolant on the lathe to the scent of the wisteria in a couple of steps.
My earliest recollection of hot oil was when we lived in a flat on Wythenshawe road Manchester. The flats were surrounded by large areas of grass and the council came round to cut it, big hand operated self propelled grass mowers covered in grass cuttings and oil. I'd be about 4 years old at the time. happy days

Why is it that one normally finds one’s own productions so entertaining whilst finding all others hideously offensive? (I say “normally” advisedly, because sometimes my own offerings have me begging for mercy). I don’t tend to perform in my car, but I once worked with a woman who lived in fear of being stopped by the police and ending up charged with assault and battery on winding her window down)

She could have been charged for wearing perfume, that can be perceived as disagreeable

Mown grass of the sweet tobacco variety, as in St David’s Cathedral close; tar; a FAINT smell of horse or cow poo in a field: makes me think of childhood picnics; pine resin; May blossom and meadowsweet.

1989 I'd just got my Landrover back on the road after its major rebuild, a friend of mine had a small holding with free range chickens and about a dozen sheep. Could I take three sheep to the abotoir? thinking I'd be using a livstock trailer I volunteered , no they were going in the back of the landy, how to get an original farmyard smell in one easy move.
The best part was the look of drivers coming the oposite way , we've all seen cars with the dogs head out of the window , me I had a sheep with it's head out bleating away.

Rape seed plants smell good, there are great acreages of them, what is the oil used for?
Rape and cereal go viral/wild, there is quite a lot of them some places I cycle, worth harvesting?

Field full of sheep in the field next to us. Bleating their heads off as dawn approaches each morning.

There's a grassy sheepy smell out there and it's not unpleasant at all.

A canvas tent. Recently took out our old Black’s Good Companions tent. My wife and myself cycle camped regularly with it and even took it continental touring. A lightweight tent of it’s day but weighs a ton. How we managed I cannot imagine. Canvas tents have a characteristic smell which bring back many happy memories.
