I agree it's maybe not a good idea to conflate the two, but some motorists do terrorize, whether deliberately (sometimes) or just through ignorance. Mrs H refuses to cycle on certain roads due to drivers; many people are "terrified" by cars. Once a speeding driver is caught in traffic, he is slowed down. BP has a point.

Only a little hyperbolic to call drivers terrorists. Traffic puts people in fear of their life, and changes their behaviour, limiting their movements.

And sometimes some pedestrians are terrorised by some cyclists, which doesn't really make cyclists terrorists.

I've been on my bike and got terrorised by another cyclist maniac so suddenly changed direction, swerving straight at me while not looking at where he's going. Either a mobile phone user or a guy with a large hood over his head such that he had only a small field of view.

That last cyclist is a known hazard and terrorisea car drivers too the way he rides against traffic then serves across the road and occasionally changes his mind and swerves back across your road up ride straight at oncoming traffic. I think I first saw him being stopped by police for being under the influence of something when pedestrian. The guy was challenging drivers to come at him. Playing chicken, even running straight at them. Although that could have been a different guy.

There's certainly inconsiderate, ignorant, downright dangerous and even intoxicated people driving, riding and walking in and around Lancaster at times. I wouldn't call them terrorists no matter what the feeling of terror might be like when they come for you! I'm not that melodramatic or prone to hyperbole.

I think it's fair to say some motorists are morons,as a result they can and do terrorise, but same goes for some cyclists though their impact is literally less severe.
It's people innit?

The plus minus is there are more good 'uns than bad 'uns, though IMO the bad'uns are on the increase :?

Or are there just more cars on the roads with the same proportions of morons from a larger pool of road users?

I disagree with the word terrorise.I have never met anyone “terrified” or “terrorised” on the road.If someone is I suggest they need help in general to cope with society.

It would be good if drivers were taught to read too
Near me there was a STOP sign protecting a cycleway crossing a side road. One time the cops observed the motrons there and issued hundreds of tickets in a few hours, pocket-money fine, for not stopping, the newspaper reported 'the STOP sign where no-one stops'
..
A few months later the stop sign quietly disappeared :(

Yes, teach the idiots to read!

I have several guns and couldn't be considered a terrorist. Mind you, if rabbits or squirrels have an MI6 I'd probably be considered a terrorist by them.

The other day in my car I rounded a corner at about 35mph (a 40mph limit in place) and came across two young men on bikes on the wrong side of the road.

They may not have been terrorists but they were certainly idiots.

I did that once (take a bend below speed limit in a car safe way) and came across two motorbikers in the same position, wrong side of the road heading straight towards me. Needless to say they got out of the way and hopefully shook themselves up such that they stopped racing round narrow country lanes like they were on a closed race course. I don't think they stopped somehow.

That's the level of idiots you see around Devil's Bridge, near Kirby Lonsdale either side of TT week. I wouldn't call them terrorists by idiots, organ donors and dangerous perhaps. Plus a few expletives at the time. I don't drive around there anymore but my mate lives down that road so I don't know how he hasn't been hit by bikers yet.

I got terrified once on the road but it took a large truck today managed to position itself such that it was over my head and I was riding along between the front and rear wheels of the trailer doing about 25 mph. I think everyone would be terrified by that especially if on that stretch you normally feel a bit puffed at 20mph!!!!

That still doesn't make the truck driver a terrorist. He's only an idiot who doesn't know how to drive safely or cannot judge the speed of other road users especially cyclists.

Incidentally this only happened because the contractors and council didn't take into account the effects of a significant new road build in the area on traffic flows. IMHO the way the build was run led directly to the directing of heavy goods vehicles and heavy traffic flow through a series of small towns and villages with narrow roads and narrow footways such that it was inappropriate.

In my view there should have been a tro stopping all heavy goods vehicles using the A6 road north of Lancaster, right up to junction 35 of the M6 except for deliveries to that area or local companies. Complete with some ANPR camera system to allow easy enforcement.

I've had someone on a few of occasions try to terrorise me by deliberately trying to knock me off and similarly so on the tandem rendering Mrs R2 to tears,I've been brake checked, has missiles thrown at me from passing cars and on one occasion had a car drive along side me then slowly try to drive me into the kerb which led to fisticuffs, the driver came off worst.
I've also had WVM try to knock me off then tell me through an open window that he was going to kill me with his van.
These incidents along with a few more happened over a number of years and with no other reason than me being there.
I've also had quite a few incidents when driving that weren't as threatening only because I was in my car at the time.
I'm not by any means anti car, driving between 8k and 10k miles a year, but I am against morons who drive, which it seems is due to little chance of being caught and IMO is on the increase.

EDIT;just to add,IMOcyclists aren't hatred by the mainstream, they're hated by a minority of idiots who drive and by a minority of loud mouthed gutter press journalists who specialise in picking on minority groups the can't be prosecuted for victimising.

If you had to brake heavily maybe you were going too fast, one should drive at such a speed that one may stop within half the distance one can see to be clear
