Swarm of bees
Swarm of bees
Out yesterday afternoon walking the dog, and saw these high up in the trees.
I knocked at the door of the house, but no reply. I'll try again this morning if the swarm is still there.
Click for bigger views. One heck of a lot of buzzing going on up there!

Re: Swarm of bees
Apparently they are worth good money to a bee keeper, sometimes over £100.
Re: Swarm of bees
They'd have to pay me a great deal more that £100 to even try getting them down!
Chucking it down out there, so I may wait a while before walking the dog this morning. I expect the swarm is still there.
Just here but the trees have grown a lot since Google went there.

The beekeeper's society usually has a swarm 'hotline'. They will send someone to come and collect unwanted swarms.
If you contact them, they can probably contact the property owner, and find the bees a new home.

Thanks.
As I say, I'll walk the dog later - even if it doesn't stop raining - and I'll see if they're still there.

Yep.
Still there!
I knocked on the door and told them about it. They have hives there belonging to someone else, so they get in touch with them. Could easily be theirs forming a new swarm. I'll leave it to them.
As for walking the dog, we've had him since the 10th of April and this is the very first time it's rained. Ok, it has been damp overnight once or twice, but this is the first wet day. Goodness knows when we had the last one.
Whatever, he didn't like it at all!

I'd get a refund, you've been sold a pup mate

Nearly four months old now. Born 6th February.
First rain he's seen, though it's stopping now and brightening up.
The clouds are lifting off the valley sides.

I did that one time - a swarm had decided to take up residence in my compost bin. They were only there a few hours, but had already started making a honeycomb.
Re: Swarm of bees
Result!
The chap I spoke to got in touch with the owner of the hives, but the bees weren't his.
He then got in touch with a mate who also has bees ............... and was actually wanting a new swarm.
The two of them went round to collect them and took them to their new home.
Still a few queen-less stragglers left.

Re: Swarm of bees
They use smoke to make them drowsy. No shortage of smoke down in Death Valley, Mick F is burning wood night and day!!
