Walking the dog yesterday afternoon, I could see Devon Great Consoles quite well over in England and took this photo.

The arsenic still hasn't allowed anything to grow, and it's fairly typical of mining waste hereabouts, though this is the largest stretch by far.

I see Google think that the place is named after a Ford Consul!
Consoles is to do with Consolidated.

We've been there a couple of times over the years to wander about. The mine chimney you see is Wheal Josiah.

There were lots of motorcycle scramblers there quite some years back, and also 4x4 rallies, but health and safety has finished that due to the arsenic dust though you do hear of mountain bikers using it even now. Walkers and explorers are often there.

No, no clothing, as such. All I had on was a flimsy shirt (open) and short shorts ................. oh, and sandals too.
Dog had his collar and lead on.

Good view though, and an interesting bit of mining history.

Not easy to fit in a visit to both places in a single trip...

I'll see what I can do!

He's wilful and energetic, but he loves to please, and loves people.
He gets on well with our three cats, especially one of them.
He's difficult on the lead when he gets excited and pulls very very hard, so we're buying a no-pull harness from Halti. They've only just come out this year so we've ordered online as none of our local pet shops have them in.

Generally, he's good on the lead, but when excited, he's terrible.
He can't be trusted off the lead because if he sees someone, all he wants to do is run over to them and say hello. He is then deaf to any commands, though it'll come eventually. When it's quiet and peaceful, he's fine off the lead and does as he's told, but it's not worth risking it generally.

Not got an up to date photo, but he's growing rapidly maybe 18" at the shoulders now and a bit too heavy to pick up!
Five months old as from Saturday just gone. At six months, he'll be going in to have his "bits" removed.

Our tap water comes from a spring in the local hills, and used to taste far better than anything you could buy in a bottle. Then about 10 years ago they decided the arsenic content was too high (about 80% of the statutory limit, i.e. about half of the US limit) and added an extra filtering stage to remove it. Nowadays it's bitter so we buy bottled stuff.

Gimme back my arsenic!
