I suppose we'll have to forgive you the clickbait...

A few points:
The invention, which is about the size of a skateboard, is powered by five small jet engines and fuelled by kerosene which is kept in the rider's backpack.
So what's the CO2 emissions of this thing? Should we be encouraging it?

Can someone explain why this nutter is carrying a gun?

And who'd want to dress up like that in this weather?
Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.
Let us pass the time by performing physical experiments...

Nope. Just injecting a bit of balance. Anyway, Bozo Bikes had the great benefit of being human-powered and zero emissions...

Don't take that last as an endorsement of said Bozo, btw!

The gun picture is from a military show flight...
It's a small personal jet, the fuel consumption won't be great, because micro scale turbines aren't particularly great... But in terms of the actual proposed uses for this tech it's not a huge contribution...
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

well the guy made it across the channel

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-49225001

what a way to travel. I definitely want one. up up & away.

seems like the French military have given him financial support.

I wonder how noisey it is.

I think search & rescue services in the back of beyond could find it useful to get to people very quickly?
