Glass re-cycling?

Hi all, Someone has raised the age old subject of reusable bottles in the letters page of the Daily Telegraph.
The point out the increased complexity of bottle re-use. Just wandering along the aisle of any supermarket will illustrate the point.
Which set me thinking about the "Corona" man, "Davenports" beer delivery, the "Full Swing" van et al, halcyon days. When fizzy pops were local, as were beers, even the large glass jars in the sweet-shop were re-fundable, been there done it got the overalls!
Why do our drink & confectionery goods have to rack up the miles? Potato crisps were invariably locally sourced, remember "Golden Wonder"?
Now almost everything is sold by nationally marketed brand, at greater cost and loss of local jobs! Think about the locally produced ice cream that was sold in the "Flea Pit"? Golden days. TTFN MM

Sadly, it seems milkmen can only offer short date milk any more!
