Post by richardfm »

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betteridg ... _headlines

I expect it can be applied to thread titles e.g Is Trump Mad?, Is electric the end of the bike as we know it? Brompton + electric motor = The ultimate bicycle? LeJog on the NCN | Leaving in September | Is there ANYTHING else that I should know? Lejog for wimps please- or am I on my own?

Is this a genuine Law?
Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.
Let us pass the time by performing physical experiments...

Yes, sure. Passed all its readings in the H of C and enacted last week. Like Murphy's, Parkinson's and Gresham's Laws.

It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

Don't forget Godwin's. The grammar nazis are sure to bring that one up...

Betteridge's law of headlines is an adage that states: "Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no".

In my defence, the Brompton title was somewhat sarcastic, whether it carried or not, I don't know.

That is my story and I'm sticking to it.

BTW, I like that someone used all caps for the word ANYTHING. I might do that for all instances of the word ANYTHING from now on...or I might not...

Doesn't that show that the answer is 'yes'?

No, not a headline.

That's lucky, if the answer was 'yes' we could have had some explaining to do.
