Lost members?

Post by Cyril Haearn »

Recently we had nearly 30 000 members, now there are only 20 000+
What has happened? :?

Does it matter? Even out of 20000 there'll only be a small proportion contributing the bulk of the interesting posts. Subject to it not dwindling to a couple of dozen ......talking amongst themselves, it's still worth following

Many folk join the forum to sell or buy something.
The For Sale adds expire and probably the members leave.

Also, the mods chuck people out for being grumpy.

I expect thousands of members died of severe anxiety whilst reading the Brexit means Brexit thread :|

I'm not sure that new joiners who haven't had their first post approved show on the members' list.

There's a steady stream of spammers. I myself disapprove a couple or three a day.
Yesterday there was someone wanting to sell Nike stuff, and the other day someone wanting to supply fake ID. Just two I remember. Most of them I don't even remember.

Next time there is one that I see, the first thing I'll do is see if they're on the members' list, and see if they go when their spam post is disapproved.

Morning all my friends, MickF joked that the "Mods" might have terminated participation on the forum, but Kwackers cut him down (Surprise, Surpise"!
I would contend that facts might be difficult to obtain to support MickF, but as someone who has personally survived a close shave with the "Mods", that such action must have happened. Much like the "Star Chamber" or a "Kangaroo Court", justice can sometimes be denied!

One suspects that they were members who had never posted and/or not logged on for several years
Doubtless the mods shall be along soon to enlighten us
Still got 1.2m posts
Seems a lot

I cut him down because he said they chucked people out for being grumpy and given the number of grumpy people on here (myself included) who haven't been chucked then it's obviously not true.

Of course my (and Mick's) remark was tongue in cheek but did I really have to explain it?

BTW, I've not seen a spammer so far today.
Looking at the log, no-one else has either.

Just disapproved ManuelPrurb first post for outright spam.

He was in the member list, and remains in the member list after his first post has been ditched into oblivion.

Spammers are still members!

Hi MickF :D , Did you say that you haven't seen a "Spanner" for a long time? Be a real wrench for you mate!
Question - Should one throw a "Spammer" or a "Spanner" in the works?
Kwackers, I they got rid of the Grumpy then I should prepare for the axe to fall :? . MM
