Whatsapp vs Messenger
Whatsapp vs Messenger
Mrs Mick F is off to The Gambia next week for three weeks doing voluntary work (again).
Phone calls are expensive, but iMessage texts via Wifi are free. Also, messages via Messenger are free as well as the phone calls. We intend to converse using Messenger. All it needs is for her to be in a place with WiFi.
People keep saying we should use Whatsapp.
What's the difference and what are the pros and cons Messenger vs Whatsapp?

If you are using IMessage why not also use FaceTime?

Not thought about that one yet.Paulatic wrote:If you are using IMessage why not also use FaceTime?
Do you need a Facebook account?
If so, I won't be using it.
You can make voice calls with Messenger.DNC123 wrote:You can make voice calls with Whatsap.
My question is what is the difference between Whatsapp and Messenger?

Messenger is linked to Fb
FaceTime is Apple. You’ve got an Apple ID. Can be used just as voice call too I believe if you don’t want to look at each other.

Paulatic is right.
Facetime is Apple. (Not Facebook)
You already have all the software you need to use it.
If you have imessage working then you can use those apple ids to use face time.
Facetime works well. Voice or with a good connection camera too.
Some later (as a very old phone user) iphones can use it over the cellular network

Thanks, that clarifies it a bit.
Messenger is "linked" to Facebook, but I can use Messenger and I don't have a Facebook account .......... and nor do I want one or ever want one.
FaceTime sounds good. I'll check that out as we both have Apple IDs of course.
Still want to know why people suggest that Whatsapp is great. What is the difference between it and Messenger?

PS:
Facetime seems free on the iPhone but on the Mac it isn't free, though it only costs 99p.
I wonder why?

Re: Whatsapp vs Messenger
That’s odd isn’t it.
As you both have iPhones I wouldn’t part with 99p
I think WhatsApp is popular because it works over all platforms.
You might not have joined Fb but they’ve got your email and know your contacts.
