What Has Made You Laugh Today ?
Re: What Has Made You Laugh Today ?
Why don’t the people of Australia fall off?
How do we know that the light goes out when you close the fridge door?

I can't tell you how relieved to hear that!
But what is an occasional table the rest of the time?

A letter in today’s Guardian:
As a retired teacher, I remember – quite fondly – the absence note referring to a pupil’s “dire rear”

I have just noticed that Chris Bonington has died.
I suppose it is a sign of my own age that I was surprised that he was 87.
I hope it will not be thought disrespectful if I remember a story about him.

Looking over the list from Harish early in the year (for the Panch Chuli expedition), Chris Bonington commented on the name Muslim Contractor.
‘That is a person, not a job, isn’t it?’
‘Yes Chris, he was with us on Rimo. Good company too.’
‘Funny sort of name that, Muslim, don’t you think ?’
‘Yes indeed...............Christian.’
It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

Do you have a link to this news? I can't find anything on the interweb saying he has died and it wasn't mentioned on the radio news.Mike Sales wrote: ↑6 Aug 2021, 10:26am I have just noticed that Chris Bonington has died.

It is his birthday today.
I was reading the obituaries page, and carelessly assumed.....
Apologies to all, and Happy Birthday, Sir Christian.

"Rumours of Sir Chris Bonington's death have been greatly exaggerated." It's ok Mike, we all make mistakes and at least this one has a happy ending!
There's another forum I frequent, the Autosport 'Nostalgia' forum - covers motorsport history - and they have an awful habit of starting a thread just with someone's name (usually a former driver) and you never know until you open the thread whether the person is ill or has died (usually the case, sadly), or whether it's just a discussion thread about the person in the title.

Is that deliberate in order to avoid the awful "RIP"?kylecycler wrote: ↑6 Aug 2021, 12:06pm - and they have an awful habit of starting a thread just with someone's name (usually a former driver) and you never know until you open the thread whether the person is ill or has died (usually the case, sadly), or whether it's just a discussion thread about the person in the title.

No, I think it's just thoughtlessness - at least the awful "RIP" would prepare you - some of these folk were my heroes and it can come as a shock or a relief depending on how it turns out when you click on the link.Jdsk wrote: ↑6 Aug 2021, 12:07pmIs that deliberate in order to avoid the awful "RIP"?kylecycler wrote: ↑6 Aug 2021, 12:06pm - and they have an awful habit of starting a thread just with someone's name (usually a former driver) and you never know until you open the thread whether the person is ill or has died (usually the case, sadly), or whether it's just a discussion thread about the person in the title.

Anyway, let's not give Vorpal extra work - remember the title of this thread!
