Should we celebrate leaving the EU

Post by francovendee »

Just wondering what we should do to celebrate leaving or should we just put it behind us?
What music would you play on the day? I'd choose a hymn used at times of great danger but can't name one.

Boris Johnson's Big Ben Brexit bong plan falls flat

An energetic if perhaps niche campaign to ensure the chimes of Big Ben sound at the moment of Brexit on 31 January appears doomed after Commons authorities played down the idea, while a funding plan promised by Boris Johnson to pay for it turned out to not exist.

Oh dear, What a pity. Never mind.

As we sail international waters I reckon "Eternal Father" pretty much sums it up.

I suppose they could play a recording of the 'bongs' through a big audio system... if they really want to.

I think I shall play Chopin's Funeral March on the piano, at the precise moment. Unless someone has a better idea. Alas, I have no violin (and couldn't play one if I had...)

I think celebrating in these same way we celebrated losing in every football tournament over the last 50 years would be appropriate:

Drunkenness, regrets, some casual racism and a resolution to do better in future.

At the last Spithead review at which I was present the French Aircraft Carrier Charles de Gaulle was playing the Marsellaise full blast over its loudspeaker system as the Queen sailed past in HMS Endurance. The Royal Marine Band on Endurance struck up Colonel Bogey drowning them out

Ring the bells and every town band should strike up Colonel Bogey. I would expect a town parade here. Everyone should celebrate in their own way, its a free country.

All in the spirit of peace and friendship obviously.

Definately not a moment for celebration, simply to be accepted as a fact.

Though I was amused by a sibling complaining bitterly that his winter holidays abroad are now costing much more, as the £'s dropped in value. I pointed out that he'd voted to have that reduction and that it'd be around for some time yet (NB. He was dumbfounded at the notion that the £ was unlikely to return to it's 2016 value on the 01st Feb!)

Good to see reality and Brexit remain as far apart as ever.

Of course people who wanted to leave should celebrate if they like. Here's a song for them to sing
