Looking at various articles it was at least 6.5 million and as many as 9 million; from 128 million that voted. That makes from 5 to 7% of voters and that's a fair amount.

If it was then we'd have lots of left wing people demanding that we boycott it. Roger Waters would have something to say too. He's not a man to stay silent if he thinks anyone's human rights are being infringed.

I have already explained to the Carpet Beater that we are already boycotting Iran so "Lefty" demands would be superfluous.
On the other hand there is another trouble stirrer in the Middle East which finances extremism and is bombing the people of Yemen into misery.
I refer, of course, to Saudi Arabia and its murdering dictator Mohammed bin Salman. We buy their oil, sell them arms and welcome MBS on visits to do business.

The Iran Human Rights (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 are intended to ensure that certain financial, trade and immigration sanctions relating to Iran, which are currently in force in the UK under EU legislation and related UK regulations, continue to operate effectively after the UK leaves the EU.
This sanctions regime is aimed at encouraging the government of Iran to comply with international human rights law and respect human rights. When these regulations come into force they will replace, with substantially the same effect, relevant existing EU legislation and related UK regulations.
The UK also implements a sanctions regime on Iran related to nuclear weapons.

It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

does this surprize you?

Political parties, police and prosecutors “turned a blind eye” to allegations of child sexual abuse connected to Westminster, ignored victims and showed excessive “deference” to MPs and ministers fighting to clear their reputations, an investigation has found.

“The police paid little regard to the welfare of sexually exploited children,” the report says. “Political parties showed themselves, even very recently, to be more concerned about political fallout than safeguarding; and in some cases the honours system prioritised reputation and discretion in making awards, with little or no regard for victims of nominated persons.

No, because it has been news for years now, ever since the Rochdale and Rotherham scandals broke. It is still going on as the state keeps things secret because to reveal them would not be 'in the public interest'.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/h ... 44896.html

When a private provider fails in some way, such as in the provision of probation services, we hear demands that it is brought back under public control.

But what do we do when the police and council staff fail us as in the child sex abuse cases all around the country, when the NHS fails us as at Stafford Hospital or when the BBC fails us by its silence while Savile and Hall carried on their criminal careers on its premises?

We have to accept the usual platitudes about lessons will be learned, it was a systemic failure, no individuals to blame etc etc.
