Do I think its rubbish or

If it takes me a long to wonder If I think its good or interesting, I think that I either miss the plot or its simply is as one person sees it.
I am no artist although I enjoyed art at school.
Maybe there is a hidden view of this stuff I don't see or even don't want to see.

I think my first impression is that its a poor poster.

My choice on producing art tomorrow would probably be sculpture......in metal :)
If I had nothing better to do / I was very comfortable financially in life........between riding on two wheels :)

I think the canvas ( I wont call it a painting) was on the ground and he tripped over his shoe laces while carrying a can of paint or a brush with too much paint on it

“I loved the idea of painting this thing that lasts for two seconds; it takes me two weeks to paint this event that lasts for two seconds. Everyone knows a splash can’t be frozen in time, so when you see it like that in a painting it’s even more striking than in a photograph.”

I bet he took just 2 seconds to trip over his laces

But what can you expect in this world of charlatans?

Art is a personal choice.

Please feel free to like it, I would not give it wall space

That's it IMO for whatever the reason.
Personally I like 'poster art'.
Splash in a lighter moment I like it and think WOW.In another I think. So what?
Art can be like that, but one thing's for sure about art,the real thing beats any photos or prints of it.

I like it. If you are getting rid of it, pass it on to me.
I might be tempted to sell it though.
Perhaps my taste is bad enough to accept a reproduction!

I love David Hockneys paintings but like most famous artists I think he is considerably overegged. His paintings remind me of those nice old railway posters sometimes. I like to try and paint my own pictures in the style of artists I admire, so perhaps I will have a go at a Mockney shortly. :D

Al .. always looking for inspiration!

I'd agree with that, but he is an extremely good and masterful artist who knows how to sell himself.

Agreed.
I like Ian Mitchell's work:- https://ianmitchellart.com

I think the art world is very strange to understand. I enjoy watching Fake or Fortune, where people try to prove that a picture they own is by an artist that would make it be worth money, but sometimes also find it infuriating, they do nothing to alter the actual painting, so why does who might have painted it alter it's value. I think there's a difference between how much someone will pay for an artwork to hang on their wall, because they like it and like looking at it, compared to how much someone will pay for an artwork so that they can tell their friends and enemies that they own it, or because they think it will be worth more money when they sell it.

I'm also suspicious of some of the institutes on Fake or Fortune, who seem to be the self-appointed authority on an artist, who get to rule on whether or not a painting is by their artist or not and often rule not, even in the face of compelling evidence, it sometimes seems petty, as they've seen it before and don't want to admit to being wrong but I'm suspicious it is simply because the art they own themselves may be worth less if there is more work from the same artist on the market.

The auction is at 7pm tomorrow so we will find out what someone else thinks, or two other people.

I may be wrong but I think he was trying to draw attention to the human created perfection of the surroundings and the random and unpredictable nature of the splash? Not that that means anything, its just the contrast?

What would you give wall space to then, a more photographic painting?

It sold for £23,117,000.

You can see what other things in the auction sold for here

Some of the posts include the details of the previous sales too, so you can see how much they've gone up.
