When we are fully out of the EU we can't send anyone back to France.

The idea that refugees must stay in the country they first arrived in was never international law, just a EU convention.

...which is sensible, to try to avoid/curtail mass movements of people, but a bit of a sideshow in terms of the relatively few would-be boaters seeking to cross the Channel.

The government is looking into the feasibility of a marine version of the Stinger. These will be deployed to massed choirs singing "Hear us when we cry to thee, for those in peril on the sea."

Yours stayed, my similarly tongue-in-cheek quip was moderated out, I note. Hey-ho.

There is nothing stopping the govt putting homeless people in hotels. Migrants certainly aren't.

Or perhaps they are considering a "big beautiful wall" along the Channel coast HW line?

Boris has this well in hand and we can expect more from our great leader

I agree. But...the message from the migrants coming in from France is that they feel France doesnt want them and one only to see the pictures of hundreds living on the streets in France to see why.

UK and France are trying to outdo each other on who has the most "hostile environment". The French police ripping up tents and regualrly beating or pepper spraying migrants seem to be winning that battle at the moment

The reduction in homelessness from 2003 to 2010 is just the sort of thing that makes me feel proud of my country.

Blaming homelessness on migrants not so much.

+1

As an aside if I recall correctly the coalition government changed the basis of counting and the post 2010 reality is much worse that the graph suggests.

During lockdown a number of migrants were held in hotels. As were homeless. The hotels were otherwise empty.

I'm trying to find more up to date figures but this from the BBC in 2018 makes interesting reading.
The UK doesn't seem no, 1 in the list of migration .

Who's the "they"?

If that story is genuine how do you know that the participants are either refugees or migrants?
