I don't know where this has come from, but I'm pretty sure there's no proposal to allow driving that weight of vehicle on a car license.

What's the source for that figure, please?

Did you consider that it isn't really international news?
The fact remains that there's a shortage of 400,000 drivers in the EU, whatever it was they were delivering, isn't getting delivered, obviously.
The issue is compounded, in the UK and EU, by the paper thin margins logistics and transport companies work with. There's 26 full size pallets on a standard trailer, the break even point is likely to be 24. Trailers running with 80% loads either have to increase charges or will lose money.

You want to see proper shortages rather than a press initiated call to arms visit Cuba.
(My bold and colour) No press at my bricks & mortar supermarket today and I didn't get what I wanted as shelves I needed were pretty empty.

Try putting " EU driver shortage" in google and take your pick from About 11,000,000 results (0.34 seconds)

Article linked to earlier explains how EU fleet operators are able to operate more efficiently than those in the UK the person interviewed stated 4%-5% which apparently makes a big difference (hence Poland which has a far greater shortage than UK is not suffering the same impacts).

PH wrote: 23 Sep 2021, 7:19pmFor evidence that Europe is suffering a driver shortage and that it's getting worse, just Google.
The importance of the shortage of HGV drivers in the UK is that we can't deliver things such as food, vaccines, sewage treatment chemicals, and vehicle fuel. A knock-on effect is that we can't empty bins. Which other European countries are experiencing the same, please?
Try Google, your demands for evidence are one sided, provide some of your own, you're the one challenging a comment made, do so with some evidence please.

You asked me to "just Google". I searched and didn't find anything at all similar to what's happening in the UK.

But of course if there is any evidence of anything similar that anyone can find I'll have a look at it.

Are you incapable of finding that out for yourself?

You asserted it. You've been asked where it comes from, twice. You won't say.

The simplest explanation is that you don't have a reliable source for it.

Who appointed you judge and jury?
I've made a statement, I have no obligation to subject myself to cross examination, anyone who cares to find out the figures for the driver shortage in Europe can very easily do so.
If you think what I've said is inaccurate, it's for you to say why, rather than this repetitive demanding of evidence, it's not like this information isn't very easily available, just google it.
