At least in the UK, whilst he would be suspended, it would be pending a PCC investigation.
Apparently he was fired due to gross misconduct, and more than seven violations of police department procedure, all recorded on the officers body cameras, or bystander mobiles. One of his shots narrowly missed an innocent bystander.
He is now being charged on 11 counts, including murder. The murder charge is brought in part because instead of calling an ambulance (required by department procedure) after shooting Mr. Brooks, he kicked him.

Thanks. Difficult to defend the ex cop. Since he is charged he will get his day in court.

Apparently only about 7% of the Rhodes Trust's £32m income is earmarked for southern African scholarships, compared with about 77% for Australasia and North America. Perhaps more money should go to the places where it was made?
That seems like a good idea to me. Maybe it should be taken even further and the control of the Trust should be transferred. Currently the Trustees are overwhelmingly white and appear largely to be drawn from the 'great and the good' of the UK. Instead the trust could be controlled by South African trustees selected from the 'great and the good' of their academia and society, who could then fund southern african students to go to universities of those trustees' choosing e.g. Harvard, MIT, Imperial College London, Edinburgh University etc.

It is simple, if you cannot have a statue because it represents a colonialist, then how can you justify the existence of a huge financial and educational institute celebrating the same person.
EIther the University cuts its links with Rhodes or not.... accepting celebration of his memory because it is financially convenient is hypocritical

I assume the author chose the title. Not sure I follow his argument. If the empire is not the source of Britsh racism what is? Is he suggesting the class system or nationalism?
