Wow. Will we ever know the connection they have with the Tory party or at least senior figures within it. Even some Conservative supporters may think this stinks.

A contract to supply £108million worth of PPE equipement given to a company who's registered offices appear to be a front for a pest control company and with assets of just £18,000.
A contract that didn't go to tender or allowed manufacturers of PPE equipement to get even a sniff at and all in a time of national crisis?

The government are doing such a wonderful job aren't they?

Be interesting to know if they've supplied any PPE yet.EU rules require all government contracts above an amount well below £108 million to be put out to tender. Feathering the nests of their mates is no doubt one of the reasons why Johnson et al want to be out of the EU.

Yer not wrong, leaving the EU will turn this country into a banana state run by money launderers, gangsters and the likes of which own the media.
I sffer no illusions about the EU but this country will be far worse out of it.
£108million is a lot of money!

Glad you added the word "some".

I can think of a few who'll claim it's all normal business practice and anyway it's nothing compared to how much money labour waste.

Most ferry companies lease ships as required, apparently.

Most? Citation?

P&O own their vessels. And had them built.

There must be a stack of them somewhere just waiting for hire.

Anyway, the point of the thread was the awarding of a £108million gvernment contract for PPE that was nver put out to tender,to a company with assets of £18,000 who specialise in pest control by all accounts.
Some would claim it to be unpalatable, what think you about it?

Well I think it's disgraceful!

Along with other stuff, like our Covid virus deaths in comparison to elsewhere.

"Citation". Fancy-shmancy. What format do you like your "citations" in? Harvard? APA? Remember this is the internet so my citation is:

Bloggs, J and Soap, J, et al 2019. Let's Get Brexit Done [Online]. [Accessed way too many times]. Available from: http://some-forum-or-other.com

But yes, point taken. Mustn't just repeat things I read on the internet. And yes, you're completely right, P&O own the The Spirit of Britain.

Can't find anything about ferries, as a class of shipping, specifically. Containerships seem to be mainly (as in more than half) leased:

It's absolutely terrible. I'm livid with anger at the whole thing.

I'll withhold my righteous indignation pending answers to these questions:

Did they supply the PPE to the contract spec?
Was it supplied on time?
What were the payment terms - upfront or staged to shipment?

If all above satisfactory (admittedly unlikely but innocent until.... etc) then unlikely to trouble most (impartial) peeps I would think.

From the FT 15.06

The Department of Health and Social Care declined to comment.

Dan England, co-founder of PestFix, said it had won the contract because it was small enough to be “dynamic” and had made a competitively priced commercial offer.
“We are a success story. We have not been sitting around on social media casting around for equipment; we had a thriving supply chain with China before the contract. We have nearly fulfilled our NHS contract and supplied over 67m pieces of equipment.”

Me too!

Not sure what constitutes a "thriving supply chain with China" these days.
An eBay account?
An Alibaba/Banggood account?
An email address to one of those folk who act as intermediaries and gets you what you want?

I'm pretty sure I could have found someone in China prepared to do me a deal on facemasks - especially with 108 million to play with.

Nobody in their right mind of course should award me such a contract and for pretty much the same reason I don't think it should be awarded to some other arbitrary "business".
(And that before there's any mention of tenders).
