Is this a new scam?

Postby merseymouth » 19 Aug 2020, 6:54pm

Hello, Just received an e:mail purporting to come from HMG. It refers to my record of vehicle ownership, even going so far as to a possible refund over V.E.D.?
Well, as I haven't owned any motorized transport in yonks, last was a MZ Supa5, I smell the usual odour of SCAM!
It certainly doesn't list a UK I.P. address. Why is it so easy for this rubbish to proliferate? MM
* The I.P. address is from Nakajame.JP

I also had an MZ 250 and usually smelt the odour of Castrol 2T oil.

They will at some stage (possibly not initially) want your bank details to pay you your imaginary refund.

Or they might ask if you paid by card, in which case they might want your card details to credit the imaginary refund.

Either way they will be hoping to extract funds before the supposed recipient notices.

I had two - splendid machines for what they were, and what they cost.

I've still got one slowly being put back together. Managed to get a Honda CB175 front wheel with a TLS brake. The Honda wheel goes straight in after swapping left and right fork legs and fixes the machines only weak spot , a poor front brake.

Thank the Lord. Very unpleasant if you are cycling downwind of it.
Current status report:
Back on two wheels in deepest Pastyland and loving every minute. Mission: to enjoy big, bad hills again.

Drift at work?
But when it comes to smell of two-stroke oil it's Bardahl every time! Nutty smell, quite pleasant. Good oil as well, way better than Filtrate, horrible messy stuff.
But drift back please. :D MM
Just checked the e:mail again? They say I have 48 hours to log onto their web link or I may get prosecuted

Definitely a scam. DVLA refunds are made automatically by cheque, I received one last week.

That was a standard fix - my second one was bought new from Burwins in London who replaced the tyres, front brake, put electronic ignition in, and added a fairing and a top box.
