Radius Gauges M&W No 206

Postby NATURAL ANKLING » 12 Sep 2020, 9:42pm

Hi,
Salvaged from tip, thought I would clean up, whats wrong?
Initially I thought by design, only really used to day for some reversed engineering. By me.

Hi,

this is how the tool looks, I have omitted the body so you can see the sizes

You have got 2 x 11/64 and are missing a 5/32.

Back to the tip to find the missing pieces then.
Or rework one of the 11/64 to trim it to 10/64 with a file or stone. :D
At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin, Raleigh 20, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Longstaff trike conversion on a Falcon corsa. :D

Hi,
Yeah I'm not sure what's happened there and will never know really maybe it was built up like that, Or someone had two sets and wasn't very careful about how they assembled them.

Hi,
I've never use them because they've been sitting around for a couple of years needed cleaning up.
When you use them is when you put radiuses on parts that you're making and use the gauge to check you've got the right radius.
I'm not sure of the extent of use, in other words It is very possible you would use them in inspection to check the correct radius on parts, thats parts inspections, goods in that you buy in engineering firms.
Also useful if you were doing some reverse engineering, e.g. making drawings or models that virtual computer models from existing parts, I'm sure they do internal radius gauges as well sure of it

Engineering inspection - now you're talking my language!

They are indeed used to get an approximation of the radius size on a component.

I'm sure they do internal radius gauges as well sure of it

These gauges will do both internal and external, the radius is cut on to both sides of the blade as shown in the annotated photo.

In the inspection lab where I work checking parts for Formula 1 cars and all other motorsport we have equipment that can measure a radius to within 0.001mm accuracy but still use (metric) radius gauges on a regular basis to get a quick check on what size a radius might be.

Hi,
Yes in and out same tool
I really enjoyed my aprenti time in RMI.
Couldn't wait to find errors so I could reject back to the supplier
Visual with mounted eye piece on sliding table with digital outputs made inspection very quick.
